Subject : Trying to pluck up the courage to try for a new baby!!

Hi all,

My name is Karel and i have just joined today.

I am 32 and i have little boy who was three in September. He was 4 weeks early but he soon caught up with all the full term babies from the aquanatal group i attended.

My husband and I are thinking of trying for number 2 only i am a bit nervous.

About 10 months after i gave birth i was told i had an ovarian cyst i was prescribed painkillers while i was on the waiting list to have a laporoscpy to see if i also had endomitriatis. i went into hospital for a day treatment in the November of 2006 and was told i didn't have endo and that they had drained my cyst successfully.

I went on holiday ten days later for a long weekend to see my sister in law in hull. when we got home i started to feel a bit of a cold coming on and went to bed early 14 nights after my operation. at 3am that night my husband had to rush my to our local A & E with terrible stomach pains. it was a good job we got home first as we live in the isle of man!!!

They kept me in for suspected appendisitis and i was operated on again the following day and was told it wasn't appendisitis but that the cyst had come back and burst and i know had a post op infection - Lucky me!!

i was kept in with a drain to get rid of all the gunk - Sorry if TMI a few days later i started having trouble breathing and i was rushed to intensive care and was sent for an MRI scan. I was told it had now turned into septecemia and i also had pneumonia. I was put on lots and lots of antibiotics and was released from hospital 8 days after being admitted. i was unable to do very little for my little boy and was very reliant on mine and my husbands family for several weeks after while i recovered.

i was told to give my body at least 18 months to recover bfore trying to conceive any more babies.

it is now nearly two years later and we have decided to start trying again in the new year. i am probably being over cautious but i am so worried in case it happens again the worst part of being in hospital was not seeing my little boy.

My husband is very understanding and has said he wouldn't mind if we didn't have any more but he would love more and i would like a brother or sister for my lovely little boy, but i as i still sometimes get some pain i do worry.

sorry if i have gone on but sometimes i worry myself too much.

Karel Smile

Hi Karel,

Oh my goodness, what an awful thing to go through! Frown Was your cyst connected to having had a baby? It's understandable you're worried, especially with your little boy to look after, but I guess you'd be very unlucky to have the same thing happen again. Would you be able to be monitored afterwards so any problem would be picked up quickly?

I really hope it all works out for you xxx

Hi,

Thank you for this thankfuly i was so full of drugs I don't really remember very much!!

The doctors don't really know very much they say that post pregnancy hormones could have made the cyst grow quickly but they aren't sure and no one can tell me very much else apart from that i would be very unlucky for it to happen again.

So we are thinking positively and my husband and mum are being very supportive.

i will keep you posted at our progress.

Hi Karel

I'm Liz. Me and hubby have decided to TTC #2, this was supposed to be our first month but hubby's had a cold so I think we've missed it!
My son is 14.5 months old and a real handful at the mo!

Have you also visited the TTC forum? Even if you're not quite ready yet it's full of advice and support.

Liz x

Thank you for this MummyAmes. I have been looking in on the TTC forum. We have decided to wait a few more months before starting just to give me a bit more time to get over everything and look into things a bit more.

Karel
