Subject : How can i explain to my doctor....don't know what to say

I really need some advice on this. My lo is 8weeks old, and im so tired. I'm forever crying to myself, shutting people out and feeling like im failing big time at this whole parenthood thing. When Oliver needs me, i always tend to him no question, but feel i have to rather than want to- and its really killing me inside. Sometimes i wish he wouldn't cry, sometimes i just want to close the door and scream. I've been brushing this away now for a couple of weeks and thinking im tired hormonal etc, but its not going away :-( Is it the baby blues or PND? My partner has been fantastic and really urging me to go to the docs- as daft as it sounds i dont know what to say when i get there and wonder if im being dramatic?!? Please if anyone feels the same or has been to docs or can just advise that would be really appreciated..... xxx

I would just say what you've told us. The doctor will give you a questionnaire to fill in too to show how you are feeling. It does sound like PND to me but I'm not a doctor. I hope you're feeling better soon - I have PND too & know how tough it is xx

Hi,
I have recently been diagnosed with PND. My LO is now 10 months old but I was like you for months, everyone kept telling me that it was baby blues etc. but it didn't go away. I have recently seen someone from the Maternity and Mental Health Unit in Sheffield and she told me that if you're still crying etc. after a week then it's not baby-blues. Go to your doctor, they will have seen so many people like you. My doctor has been fantastic.

Hi
My little boy is nearly six but I remember feeling exactly the same way as you are describing. I felt Connor didnt love me and I should have known how to soothe him n stuff and felt a failure. I used to shut myself in a room and sit on the floor crying, then get up and get on with it. I dint get any support as I was too ashamed ( a rather judgemental hubby at times ) and now I am pregnant 12 weeks and worry it will happen again.

It took me just over three years to sort myself out and it was a very lonely place to be.

Please speak to your doctor - I wouldnt hesitate now. I think it's far more common than some people realise.

I felt under enormous pressure to have this perfect family, happy baby and look fantastic and keep the home perfect but I wont be making htat mistake again.

Good luck and remember that if you dont want to talk to your doctor, there are plenty of nice people here you can turn to for support.

Smile
