Subject : Successful Elective Section
hi everyone, i just wanted to share my experience with you all :)
i had my little girl, Emily Paige on monday by elective section, she weighed 8lb 3oz and was 54cm long.
i am so so happy i had an elective section, i was a bit unsure i had made the right decision but am now 110% sure it was the right way to go. i went in at half 8 on monday morning, the staff were all so nice and helped me relax. i had a spinal block which was a tad uncomfy but again all the staff helped my relax and my oh was there holding my hand and it was just such a great experience, all of it.
I had a previous emergancy section and to be honest it wasnt a good experience, but an elective section is so much different and i would recomend anyone who is thinkin of having one to go for it!
my recovery has been great, with my emergancy i was in hospital a week, with this one i was out after two and a half days, i am so much more capable then when i had my previous one. which helps when i have a baby and a 1 yr old to look after, but luckily my oh is here to help every step of the way.
just thought i would let you all know as many people have bad experiences with emergancy sections and it puts them off having another :)
Hope everyone is well

hiya, glad i could help even if its only a little! my consultant tried to put me off having an elective section telling me everything that could go wrong, which is why i think i wasnt 100% about my decision at first.
everyone is different tho, but if a section is what your thinking dont let anyone or anything change your mind, you will be so glad once you've had the section im sure.

Hi Shelly,
Congratulations on the birth of ur lil girl....
Just wanted to say: thanks soo much for posting this, i too had emergency c section first time, am now pg again (only 15wks but have started thinking already). and have been weighing up pros and cons of electing for cs, my biggest worry is my 2 yr old- worried about how he'll cope. i did recover verywell first time round, so am sure no reason shouldnt this time, but its still always a worry.
thanks again, think you are going to help alot of people by posting this.
xx

Hi Shelly,
Firstly - congrats on the successful birth, I'm glad your daughter arrived safely (through the sunroof as my hubby would say!), and what a lovely set of names you've chosen for her :-)
Secondly, how long after you arrived did they actually perform the op? I'm only asking cos I've got mine next April (3rd) and they said a bed's been reserved and for me to arrive by 7.30am (aka the middle of the night!!). So I was just wondering if the op would be done that am or pm or what...? I'm really looking forward to having 3 days of peace and quiet in hospital with my new baby - I'm having the op on the Fri and will be home on the Mon so I get a whole weekend free of my toddler's tantrums!!
Cheers,
Anita
PS - I also had an emergency section and am a bit nervous cos I was doped up on pethidine and entonox last time so didn't really feel the needle but I'm worried it's going to really hurt cos I'll be stone-cold sober this time??!!! Is it really bad? (you said 'uncomfy' ?!).

Hiya Anita.
first off, thanks for your reply :)
i went in for my section at half 8 in the morning and emily was born at 11:24 am. BUT they had planned on doing the section at half 9 (at my hospital they want you to be in 1 hour before they do the section to go threw everything with you) but there was an emergancy that came in so obviously this took priority. but i wouldnt imagaine they will keep you hanging around and will get you in as soon as they can.so deffinately in the am for you i would say.
i too was "out of it" wen i had the epidural for my emergancy section and to be honest cant even remember much of what it was like! everyone's pain barrier is different, but i am a COMPLETE WUSS wen it comes to pain, lol, and the spinal block was not half as bad as i was expecting. it stung more then anything and i remember squeezing my oh's hand and thinking "oww stop that" lol but it wasnt painful in that i felt the need to scream in agony?, you get me?!im not very good at explaining, sorry :)
it was deffinately less painfull then contractions this i can remember for sure.
Hope iv answered ya questions, if theres anything else ya want to ask go ahead i dont mind :)
