Subject : Sorry if TMI - query re stitches?!?!

Sorry if this is all tmi but.......

I had my lo 10 1/2 weeks ago and suffered a third degree tear - and whilst in the bath the other day i was rooting around to see if everything felt normal down there and can feel what I can only think is a stich, its like a little pin sticking out - like fishing wire! I thought my stitches were disolvable and would have gone by now - do you think this sounds normal? I tried looking ina mirror but can't see it! I think I should be getting an appt through soon for a 12 week check up so it will all get looked at then (oh the joy!) but just bugging me what it could be!

Also - am I the only one with piles!

I had the exact same thing after my 3rd degree tear. It eventually dropped out by itself so dont worry! Although if you are worried would get it looked at.

Hi,

My stitches burst and I had to have the midwife pull the remnants out, so it might be worth just getting it looked at to be sure. If it sits there for too long it might cause you a bit of irritation!

Can't help on the piles thing, that was one of the horrible pregnancy symptoms I thankfully managed to miss!!!

Hi amy I had 3rd degree tear last august which was repaired with dissolvable stitches. They dissolved quite quickly but one bit, which felt like a tiny knot, took a few weeks longer but did eventually go,not sure if it dissolved or just fell out. Keep an eye on it and if its still there in a week or 2 it may be worth you seeing your nurse or g.p or maybe even the hv could have a check, as i suppose it could lead to infection if it is failing to dissolve x I developed piles in my first pregnancy and theyve stayed ever since, theyre quite small and totally painless so dont bother me at all, i guess id feel strange without them now because iv had them for around 3 years lol x

Hi

I have a third degree tear and 15 weeks on, I still have stitches in. At my follow up gynae appointment, I was told by the consultant that right inside, there are still stitches holding everything in place. They are dissolvable, but sometimes take longer in some women to disappear. They said to me that they might still be there for another couple of months!!!!!!

If it's causing you irritation, get your gp to look at it (mine's brilliant). They will understand. Have you got a gynae appointment booked for the near future?
