Subject : Reflux - what did your GP say?
I am going to be making a doctors appt for more tablets for my PND soon so gonna ask about Gabe's reflux.
He was dismissed by 2 HVs as a "sicky baby", I changed his milk from SMA to Cow and Gate which helped for a week but now he is back to normal and also crying during feeding, getting distressed, then burping and sicking up LOADS. He is back to going thru 20+ bibs a day, its ridiculous, I am going to ask if he can prescribe him infant Gaviscon, do you think he will agree or will he just be dismissed as sicky again???

Hi,
Just explain what gabe is doing and when etc. I'm sure the docs will have come accross it before.
My doc was great and refered us to the hospital at one point but he was really helpful and full of advice. Just ask if you can have a trial with the gaviscon and see if it helps. I'm sure that you'll be fine.

have you spoken to your gp before. my hv dismissed me for weeks i wentto my gp about daisy constipation and within a week they referred me to a peadeatrician at 14 weeks she was diagnosed with silent reflux and has been on gaviscon rantidine anddomperidone. Daisy doesnt know how to sleep properly now after writhing around in pain from 4 weeks. she has never slept through and all i was ever told was that it was collic. If your gp isnt v helpful just ask to be reffered to a peadeatrician. No wonder he consumes so much milk it doesnt stay in his tummy long enough to satisfy him.

You are right westbrom (btw my oh is a wolves fan! do you hate me now? lol!), the sheer volume of milk in his tummy is definitely not helping. I give him breakfast every day but he's not too interested in it yet, just loves his milk. He is really unsettled whenever he is sick.

Hiya hun,
the gp we saw about chloe's reflux was great. the hv had already confirmed she had it but obviously could not prescribe anything so made a gp app. they were great, asked a few questions and prescribed gaviscon, which is added to her milk.
the only thing i would say is she has now gone backwards since being on food, and in fact i am waiting for gp to call to try and sort something cos everything is getting ruined by carrot and sweet potato sick (all her white bibs are now orange and i can't get it out. she is also really irratable in the evenings.
the gaviscon worked a treat tho when she was on just milk - was almost instant!
hope you get it sorted, sounds like he has got it hun.
Lara xx

Hi tigerlilly & Gabe, dont know if you read my other post about Ashton?
He wasn't putting on any weight once I stopped bf and put him on bottles and he also started to projectile vomit after every other bottle. We were referred straight to the pediatriction at the hospital and they said that it was reflux and aslo an intolarance to cows protien. For the last week he has been on special milk called neocate and having gaviscon in every bottle and the difference has been huge, straight away! No more sick and he has gained over a 1lb in less than a week.
He is now really settled after a feed so definatly talk to your gp. If he/she is not helpfull then speak to your health visitor about it as mine has been fab!

Am definitely going to ring doctors today tammi. I'm glad Ashton is putting on weight now! Gabe has always been fine putting on weight until this last fortnight where he only gained 2oz.

Grace has been put on Infant gaviscon as well but I am also leaving her on the Soya milk. Seems to be really helping which I am pleased about.

Hi Tiger Lily,
Have you thought about putting Gabe onto Cow and Gate Comfort??
I think it would really help him and may fill him up more as it's thicker??!
It's probably the same as putting gaviscon with his normal milk but i've heard that it's alot of messing around with that, where you just make the comfort milk the same as his normal milk.
Just a thought!

Hi
As i went to type a reply Lily did projectile sick all over me and just avoided the laptop! She had her 8 week check last week and I mentioned the sick to the doctor. He said I could have some infant gaviscon and to go and see him if I decided to go ahead with it. I thought she had been better but since last week she has been her usual sicky self. It is baby clinic tomorrow so will see him about getting it. I might try the comfort tho. Anything to get rid of the sick!
The doc was really nice about it but my HV just laughs at me.
xx
