Subject : OPK users - how long do you get a positive reading for?

I seem to have started my surge on Thursday evening, but yesterday evening (sunday), I was still getting a very, very dark second line; probably even darker than the other three positives.

Is this normal?

I've been BDing every day (sometimes twice) since Thursday and I know my OH won't last like this forever....!

This month I got 2 dark lines on the Sunday and also on the Monday but by Tuesday there was nothing or just a faint line (therefore a negative)
Has to be said though that I didn't test on the Saturday or the Friday so the surge could have lasted longer.

I don't think that I tested properly last month though so this is only second month of giving them a go, albeit sporadically.

Hello you,

I only seem to get a positive once, but thinking about it, I don't often test again once I've had the initial positive. Does this happen every month?

I don't know what to suggest, but the bd-a-thon is probably keeping all bases covered!! LOL!

Also, I'm not sure whats OPK tests you're using...... the access diagnostics ones seem to be recommended a lot on here, and from my experience haven't been too confusing - is it worth trying a different brand?

Its the first month I've used them, and I know that you're supposed to detect the surge and stop, but a) I'm a poas addict and b) I wanted to know when I could have a break from BDing, and thought two days after I no longer had a positive....

I'm using ones called Diagnostic Tests, but I know they are more sensitive than the Superdrug ones.

I think I'll test again after lunch, and see from there. To be honest, I imagine that I might not actually be releasing an egg, as I have such long cycles that there's clearly something funny going on.

I've had tender breasts for about 10 days now and its not getting any better. Damn hormones! Settle down!

Well, not wanting to get your hopes up but I know that PinkToothbrush has said before that she got positives on ov sticks and assumed that she was having a long surge but she was actually pregnant and it was picking up the pregnancy hormone.

What cd are you on as you never know?

Gosh, I didn't know that they would pick up that hormone. They must be similar in some way, I suppose.

Well, I'm on CD35, but my last cycle was 46 days, and I started peeing on the ov sticks on day 6 (ever the optimist) of my cycle this time, and didn't get anything until Thursday; not even a hint of a second line.

I'll do another ov test later and see what that throws up - I refuse to get my hopes up at the moment. Although I might order some cheapie pg tests of the internet for a fortnight's time.

PS Anyone know where Pink Toothbrush hangs around now (have seen her here a bit but not sure where else!) so I can ask her about it?

Hiii! Before I fell pregnant I sometimes got +ives for two days in a row, or THOUGHT I had a +ive one day but then the line was even darker the next. And yes, as Claire-ski says the month I fell pg I peed on ov sticks on and off throughout my two week wait -j ust for educational purposes! - and found I kept getting +ives (hubby was knackered! LOL! )

I looked it up and apparently hCG (pg hormone) is structurally very similar to LH (ov hormone), which is why ov tests can show +ive when you're pg.

Maybe you could keep shagging every other day (should be enough) just in case? Good luck!

PS I'm here by chance, not stalking anyone, honest - I normally try to answer the ov stick questions because it's the one thing I feel like I know what I'm talking about! Over in pregnancy I'm just Confused

Thanks PT! I went to look for you on another forum and you were here all along!

That is really interesting - thank you! I think I'll simply keep on BDing as much as I can, without stressing about missing a day, and see what happens.

And I'll keep peeing on the ov sticks until the surge goes. I was dying for it to be over until I found out about your experience - now I'm desperate for it to continue for nine months...!

I didn't think you were stalking! And I hope you don't feel pursued by me!

We do appreciate you sharing your pearls of wisdom on this forum - please keep dropping in.

How are you feeling? (apart from clueless on the pg forum!)

I hope I don't give you false hope but honestly, I thought the sticks were knackered when I kept getting +ives on cd 14, 16, 19, 20, 24 etc. Had no idea they could indicate pregnancy until I researched it. Quite tempted to go and pee on one now and see what it says!

Haha, nope, I feel the opposite of pursued - itching to get back to work and use my brain again (I'm a teacher) is more like it - so thanks for making me feel useful Happy Not sure about pearls of wisdom but glad my experiences can help other people.

I'm VERY well, thank you! Never felt healthier. Bit gutted to see two new stretch marks on my hips today Frown but at least it's not my tummy (yet), and hey, it'll be worth it!

Cheers Fallen Angel - hope for me!

Well, Pink Toothbrush, I think my sticks are dodgy! I'm going to test a sample of OH's pee later (if he'll agree). I just did a test and it came up the darkest I've ever seen - this test detects 20Uml of LH. So I did a Superdrug one which only tests 40 - again, a really dark second line came up.

I think I'll just keep BDing and testing on the ov sticks. I don't think I should get my hopes up yet, to be honest.

Stretch marks? Start of term? Yet still so cheerful?

Glad you're feeling really well though - so lovely you got your BFP!

I got a +pos on Tue night (late) Wed and Thursday morning.
I use the cheap ones on E-Bay, one step they are called, although I soon as I got the +pos use either the Superdrugs own ones or the Clear Blue coz I like to see the smily face. I know I should be happy with one +pos but I just love POAS!!! hehe

I'm currently on CD47 (long cycle) due to contraceptove jab. So dont really know if I realised an egg or not but I was in so much pain so i think I must off (fingers crossed)

Wish you loads of luck, you will be testing round about the same time as me (Wed 10th Sept)

Annem - glad I'm not the only one who confirms what the cheap sticks say with a high street brand!

I think I won't test until at least 14 days after I stop getting a dark second line, but you're right! We should be testing roughly the same time if my surge ever comes to an end....!

Hehe, the first time I ever used one it was +ive (pure chance that I started testing on the right day in my cycle) and I made hubby pee on one to check too! Not sure who was more relieved that he wasn't ovulating, him or me.

Ask me how I feel in another week but I love my school and the kids I teach and can't wait to feel useful again Happy Think I'm going to be a nightmare when I start maternity leave at half term.

I'm glad I'm not the only one too, as I seem to be spending a fortune!! I keep telling my hubby it will be wroth it.

I still feel as though I am OV'ing as I am getting slight cramps, but I know I'm not coz I checked last night and it was neg!

I know I am thinking ahead but it could be a good thing that I'm cramping. Keeping everything crossed anyway.

Its my birthday on Saturday so I would love to have been able to test for that, would have been the best present ever. Knowing me I will no doubt POAS on Saturday anyway!!

Its also coming up to what would have been my due date - 4th Sept and I so wanted to be pregnant before that time, but it wasn't meant to be

I always admire teachers - its a job that I simply know I could never do. Half-term isn't even that far away, surely?

I'm not sure how pleased OH will be when I ask him to pee in a pot, but I just want to know...! I've tested the bathroom tap, and am pleased to tell you that isn't about to ovulate!

Haha, shortly after we'd tested hubby, I caught HIM testing OUR bathroom tap and we got the same result as you, Flush! I'm off into town now, bye ladies. xx

Oh Annem - sorry to hear that. Try not to put too much pressure on yourself with deadlines - easier said than done, I know.

What date is your birthday? Its my 30th (eek) on the 20th, so if no AF, I might try to hang on for that.

I'm not exactly spending a fortune, but my eyes did water at the price of the Superdrug ones. I've vowed not to buy any more of those, though.
