Subject : 37 weeks - baby is back to back any tips???

Hey Girls,

Went for my 37 week midwife appt. Everything is good, no sugar in my wee and im measuring 37 and a half weeks so no longer 3 weeks ahead woohoo!! Little one is a good size and not huge like I was previously told - also she has a smaller head which is fab easier to push out hehe!

So midwife says our little girl still has her back to my back so this can mean a longer harder labour as I have push out a larger diameter - she said to basically get into a dog position and put my head on a pillow and stay like if for quite a while so that it will encourage her to move (this and the fact midwife said to be having lots of sex now made my hubby a very happy man!!) She still has time to move as she is not fully engaged - if not she is advising an epidural. I am ok with it I just would of preferred a natural water birth( but would of probably given in to the drugs anyhow!) as I live in Germany they are all about natural births over here so will only give you drugs if absolutely necessary - no matter how hard I scream!!!

Has anyone got any experience with back to back position and any tips to get little one to move??

Thanks, Amy & Bumpy - 37 weeks xxxxxxxxxx

I am only 31 weeks so had no personal experience of this but at our parenting classes our physio advised us to sit on a gym ball and lean slightly forward and have kness slightly lower than hips and very gently bounce on the ball - she said this will encourage baby not to be back to back. Also my sister-in-law was told to sit astride a chair and lean over the back.
Hope this helps x

I was told my baby was back to back at about 33 weeks, she has moved the right way now, i can reccomend using a birthing ball if you have one.

My baby was back to back at about 36 weeks and sitting up straight and not slouching back into the couch was the only thing that turned him round. It gets a bit annoying but I've been told it will be worth it when I eventually go into labour!

Hiya

I never knew Lily was back to back. My waters went at 2am, felt fine went back to sleep, by 2.45am I was pacing the floor, 4am made hubby take me to hospital, got to hospital at 4.20am had Lily at 6.06am! I didn't feel all the contractions because she was back to back and as I pushed her out she had to turn so had she not been back to back my labour would have been quicker. Eek! So if baby doesn't turn don't worry too much. Although the midwife told me that you get pain in your back if they are back to back which I did and the pain relief isn't effective as well for that type of pain. Saying that I was only allowed 2-3puffs on the gas and air then they took it off me and told me to push!

I didn't look like I was in much pain - according to hubby and it didn't feel too bad. I did have a 3rd degree tear as because Lily had to turn as she came out she tore me! The little madam!

i'm 39 weeks and my baby has been back to back for ages...i've tried everything and it just hasn't worked, he's only moved slightly but not enough to make a difference. i was told any position that leaves ur stomach 'hanging' (if u get what i mean) will cause him to turn but it just hasn't worked...apparently the best thing is while ur watching tv, sit on the edge of the sofa with ur legs wide apart and learn as far forward as u can or just get on ur hands and knees as much as poss! x

Like some other posts - I was also told to sit upright on the sofa and not slouch or to bounce up and down on a gym ball. It seems to have worked as midwife says baby has turned front to back x

Hi

As others suggested use a birthing ball (I did in my last pregnancy and really think it helped) or on all fours (rest down on your elbows if tiring) in the evening. Also sitting forward in your chair, not slouching. i used to sit on a kitchen chair rather than the sofa.

Trying to remember what we were told in our NCT classes but memory is terrible.

Hi there

From pregnancy yoga I was told the follow:

Using the dog pose position
Leaning forward on a bean bag instead of sitting on the sofa or on a chair leaning forward
Any position where you are on your hands and knees is supposed to be very helpful
Some acupunturist are supposed to be good at turning babies (but it depends on their position)
Try sleeping and resting on your left hand side

Anyway, I hope some of these are helpful. Good luck and hope your baby changes position soon.

Am only at 18 weeks but browsing pregnancy magazines yesterday I read much the same as above:

sit on an upright chair, backwards, leaning arms on back of chair, legs resting below hip height

sleep on left side

rest for about 10 minutes per day, kneeling on your bed with your head and chest flat on the bed

some aromatherapy/ reflexology on your little toes (that partner can help with) twice a day, check with midwife/ complimetary therapy professional

It'll be worth taking the 'time out' now!! Best wishes;\)

Gym ball is definitely the way forward! With my first I went to a labout day 2 1/2 weeks before I was due and the midwife there was really shocked that my daughter was sideways still and said that to get the baby to move generally I should lie front ways over the ball and rock gently for 10 minutes 3 times a day - it worked as she moved within the weeks and was born 5 days early!

Hello!

I had a back to back baby (but they didn't realise until she was born) so if baby doesn't turn in time my advice would be to have an epidural during labour.

My labour pains were terrible and very prolonged and I don't think they realised how much pain I was in until it was too late for an epidural.
