Subject : Bottle feeding
Hi,
I am trying to get my 8 week old to take a bottle just once a day/few times a week to allow me to have an early night! I had no problems with my son and thought it would be the same with my daughter. However, she will not suck on the teat when it's placed in her mouth! I have tried Avent, Tommy tippee and playtex bottles, formula and expressed milk. I have tried at different times of the day, with other family members feeding her. I have tried to feed her in an upright position away from the body, snuggled positions, like breasfeeding, warming the teat and making sure the milk is close to body temperature. When I do give up because she becomes very upset, I breastfeed her and she latches on instrantly on feeds very well.
Does anyone have any more ideas of how to encourage the latch onto the bottle????

My friend had the same thing and the only teats he would take were those small narrow brown ones that they have on cheap and nasty bottles! I think they sell them in the Pound Shops. Sorry can't think of anything else unless it's the speed at which the milk comes out and you need to try fast flow teats?

Can't really advise much as bottle feed and use Tommee Tippe which u have tried.
I have heard that NUK bottles are good if you are breast feeding and wish to use a bottle for some feeds. Never tried them myself though but only thing I can think of.

Thanks for the advise, I'll try the MAM bottle next. I tried the Nuk bottle last night and she found the flow too fast...just ended up with a wet babygrow and vest! Still not interested in sucking on the teat. I'll laugh if she ends up taking from one of the cheaper ones!

sorry cant help but will be interested in what you find works! I gave my Lo one bottle at about 6 weeks which she drank most of but then still cried for more - i put her to my breast and the look in her face was pure enjoyment! That was aptimil milk and have since realised that she was also going throw a growth spurt....
I tried again at 7 weeks, cow and gate this time and she spat it out and cried!
I am hoping she'll take it from my mum as I have a party coming up that I really want to go to! Will go back to aptimil though. (I bought the ready made cartons not powder)
I have the tommee tippee bottles, she'll drink a little water from them but even the slow teats seem to come out really quickly for her

I was going to say get someone else to try and bottle feed her as apparently babies can smell your milk so wont want anything other than the breast, but I see you have said other family members have already tried with the bottle.
I think my friend tried to wean her baby off the breast and wasnt very successful until she got her oh to feed baby with a bottle whilst she went out for a while and apparently it worked!
Other than that, not sure what else to suggest - sorry.
xx

Well, she has now taken 3 bottles from me, with aptimil from tommee tippee.....no idea why....just pot luck. My oh tried last night with point blank refusal again! I fed her when she had just woken up enough to safely swallow, but maybe not awake enough to realise it was the bottle. I know it sounds funny, but I also kept my t-shirt on whilst feeding her bottle at night...maybe she didn't smell my milk???
I'll keep going, but at least i know she can take 3 oz when bothered.
