Hi ladies

this is probably a silly question but i have tommy tippee bottles and am using an electric sterilizer with the ready-made aptimil and also i'm expressing. after i have steriliszd the bottle and put in either the actimel or the breast milk how long can they be out of the fridge before being used? i'm a new mum and want to go out with baby for several hours but wonder how i do this with a bottle and it remain sterile and the milk/formula ok???

Hi hun, I am solely bottle feeding and finding it a nightmare!
I am also using the TT bottles, and microwave steriliser. Once feeds are made up, I think they can stay fresh in the fridge for 24 hours, but not sure. Once they are out, they should be used within 2 hours then thrown away. Everyone is giving me conflicting advice though..feel as confused as you!

the bottles are sterile but the milk at room temp will start to grow bacteria but i have read a few things

Jo Frost says if you express into the bottle you can keep it at room temp for up to 6 hours and i did this quite a bit but other info i have read say it must be refrigerated strait away and used within 24 hours

formula milk should really be refrigirated but i know loads of people who have bottles made up in their bags for hours but i wouldn't really keep one in a bag for more than an hour or so

my cousin had a fantastic gadjet a milk powder dispenser very cheap form boots, asda etc, you measure your powder into it and take a bottle of cool boiled water which can stay in your bag all day. when baby needs a feed just empty the powder into the bottle and hey presto room temp milk i thought it was a fab idea

oh yeah the dispenser has like 3 compartements so you can take 3 bottles of water out and the dispenser and it's no hassle at all. little spout on the dispenser so there's no mess

Tommee Tippee do food dispensers which fit into the bottle. These were great when I used them for Kara. They were so handy for going out.
