Subject : When do you stop using a buggy?

Hi all, we're ttc at the mo and was wondering whether we would need a double buggy? My lo is 15 months so if we were successful soon she would be 2ish if we were lucky enough to have a new baby. Would it be worth buying a double buggy?

hi personally i would say no. my daugher hasnt used a buggy since she was about 22 months. once she found she can walk most distances without much problem she didnt want to use one. you could get a buggy board? it all depends how far you would have to walk? if its only around town/shops ect i wouldnt bother,1 because your LO probab;ly wont want to use it much if at all and 2 because it is such a pain to get in and out of shops with a double buggy!

I would say the opposite lol! Millie was 22 months when I had Barney and there is no way I could manage without my double. She does love to walk and if we go somewhere where it is safe for her she often does BUT I would be very uncomfortable allowing her to walk alongside busy roads or around a busy town centre as she has no real sense of danger and thinks it is funny to run away. I bough the Phil and Teds which works brilliantly for us as I can swop between a double and a single depending on what we are doing and it's no bigger than alot of singles so I have no problem with it in shops etc.

I was wondering about this. My daughter is 2yrs 7months and because we live 15mins walk from town and have to walk up the hill on the way back she still needs her buggy. I took her without it today and I had to carry her all the way home up a steep hill. Luckily im not pg other wise I wouldnt have coped.
She loves walking but the long distance is too tiring. Were ttc atm and think by the time we have a baby she can walk, but then I thought that last year when we started and thought we would have a baby by now.
Hope this helps xxx

we are also ttc and if we were succesful soon brooke will be 2 ish! i will get a double buggy untill she stops napping in the day if we are out and about they only have little legs and will get tired easily. i thought about a bugy board which will be good if she isnt napping but she can nap on a buggy board!!
when she cuts out that daytime nap i will go back to a single with a board.

atm she naps for an hour in the afternoon.

xx

I would say you need a double buggy, my daughter was 2 1/2 when Isaac was born and I very def used it alot, we live about 1 1/2 miles from town and also have school runs to do and I really felt it was too much to expect her to walk all that way, she will be 4 in October and stopped using her buggy about 6 months ago.

I would never have been without my double, m,y eldest was 18 months when youngest was born, they are now 1 and 2 and a half and i still use it to walk up to my mothers or to take my eldest to playgroup etc. I use it mainly for safety as i wouldnt fancy chasing a toddler down the road and trying to push a buggy and my eldest gets lazy and expects to be carried if we havent got his buggy so id definitely recommend a double x

We've gone via the dbl buggy route basically as we wished we had done so last time!! My eldest son was 27months when baby came along and although loved walking, did get tired/weary and even thou we bought a harness for baby, after a while, baby got too heavy but Luke would still want the odd nap while out and about. Even now, at 3 1/2 and 17 months respectively, if we've been out for a long time or if the older one has had a bad nite and is tired, he'll still pop into the buggy and daddy will carry Alex!

Alex is very tiny for 17months - only the size of an 11-12 month old and is just starting to find his feet so the need for a double was more apparent anyway this time round. We're keeping the single as it was only bought this yr, so we have the option of that at a later date Smile I think it does very much depend on the individual child etc and circumstances on when u'll be using buggy etc.

I wouldn't buy a double buggy as your lo is old enough to walk already. My sonDaniel will be 14 months soon and he's already trying to walk. I let him walk whenever I can so he can soon swap buggy for walking. he gets used to walking that is good to keep him fit and healthy. I only use buggy for Daniel when I walk somewhere where he wouldn't manage yet so I sit him in the buggy to rest his little legs. Doing that he already don't want to stay in the buggy for long.

i say it depends on the older child if she is already walking the majority of the time any way i would say no, but some kids dont get out of using the buggy till they are 3. if she is still using it a little you could alway get her a buggy board instead x

it depends on your child and also how long you go out for, how you travel, if she still sleeps during the day etc? My son was 28mths when my 2nd was born & i did get a double but sold it within 2mths after using it a handful of times because i found so heavy & awkward! I dont drive so buses were a nightmare! Got a buggy board & never looked back but my son was very good about not running away etc. My lo is now 27mths & when out the buggy, runs at every opportunity! He'll be in the buggy for a very long time

i didn't buy a double buggy because we couldn't really afford it. my son was 2 and a half and walked a lot anyway. when he was at the childminder although it was only 1 day a week i would walk him there, they would walk to pre-school to drop off, then round the town or to the park, then home, then back to pre-school for pick-up, then home for lunch, then to the primary school for pick-up, then back again and the walk home.
However once the baby was born he started playing up - he wanted to go in 'his' pushchair and if he had a tantrum i couldn't move him and control the pushchair.
I still couldn't afford a double pushchair so just had to get on with it and my eldest soon got over it! i also found as nikki said that having a sling for the baby means you can still use the pushchair for your eldest if you need to. once zach was allowed to go in 'his' pushchair he soon realised it was boring and he wanted to get out and walk again but it was easy enough to put the sling in just in case!
I would say if you rely heavily now on your pushchair then consider getting one - maybe second hand or consider it as something you can sell on. if you think you can cope without then you can always change your mind and get one at a later date! are you eligible for the £500. maternity grant? that would help if you needed to get one.
