Same problem here. Ellie is nearly 11 months but she will drink from the cup without the lid on. I can't let her hold it herself as there will be one hell of a mess but she takes it from the cup when I hold it. I too have bought about 3 types to try but no luck

Shea was a nightmare when I first gave him a cup at a couple of months but then I was buying these anyway up and non spill cups. Then I bought a cheap free flow tommy tippee and he got it straight away.
Then a nursery nurse told me to stay clear of all these fancy ones and go for a normal free flow as they need to learn the action of sipping which is completely different from suckling a bottle

When Shea is teething he can bite on the spout as I suppose its nice on his gums
the tommee tippee free flow also appear to be the cheapest on the market at £1.89ish

I also think perserverance is the key!!

Once when she was really thirsty she drank a bit from avent philips cup. I thought that was it and that she will be fine then, hahaha how wrong was I :) I tried tomee tippee and a cheap sainsbury's one as well with no luck. Think I'm gonna stick with the simple one as you say;)
Thanks for all advice and If you'll discover a magic trick by any chance, let me know:) x;\)

Have you tried the amadeus 360 cup? It doesn't have a spout but lo can drink from all round the rim. Just bought one for Cole cause he's a bugger for not drinking from every sippy cup I've tried (5!!) but he's not quite got the hang of it yet. Bought him that one cause he has occasionally drunk from my glass with help. Having said that - he is better iwth the normal freeflow sippy cup than he used to be.

The amadeus cups are in mothercare, boots and tescos - but the smaller boots/tescos (as in every one i looked in) don't seem to carry it
