Subject : Another August Boy has been born !!!
Hi Ladies
Sorry this is the first chance i have had to post since the birth of my beautiful baby Boy.
After 50 hours in labour - Brodie Harrison entered this world at 11:40pm on Thursday 14th August weighing a sturdy 10lb 3 1/2 oz - he was 54.5cm long with loads of thick dark hair
So here's a quick run down of how the labour and birth went for me
After feeling crampy all day on Tuesday, at 9:30pm i started getting contractions 5 minutes apart lasting 30 - 45 seconds - this continued throughout the night and although uncomfortable i didn't find them painful ! I phoned the labour suite about 7am on the wednesday morning who told me to come in - so in i went and got hooked up to the monitors and they examined me to find i was 3cm dilated - the midwife sent me for a walk and to get some food and to come back - so myself and my husband did this. I was then put in a waiting room with sofa's and birthing balls etc and was told they would come and get me at 1pm to examine me to see if i was dilating any more - but if contractions became more regular or painful to give them a shout.
About 11am they came to see how i was getting on and they said the labour suite's were all busy that i was to go to the antenatal ward and they would monitor me there and send me down once i was in a lot of pain or 4cm dilated. So was in the ward all day and contractions still coming every 5 minutes, getting a wee bit sorer - so i asked if i could be examined to see if i had dilated any more they said they would examine me that night but it was unlikely as the contractions still weren't regular enough - so i laboured all day and hubby got sent home at 9:30pm on Wednesday night. Still had regular contractions every 5 mins all night - Hubby came in at 10am on the Thursday morning and the doc came round and examined me - 5cm dilated and he said he would send me to the labour suite to get my waters broken to try and speed up the contractions - Again labour suite was busy - got taken down at 2pm and waters broken - contractions got more intense and longer but still every 5 minutes - At 3:30pm it was decided i was to be given the drip to bring on contractions - Had the drip inserted ( 4th attempt and one of the worst bits of labour !!!!) at 4pmish and was told the contractions would come thick and fast - that i would probably need an epidural - The contractions did come quickly and every 30 minutes they increased the doseage on the drip to intensify the contractions - I was starting to feel really sore so the midwife suggested some gas and air and morphine - which was fab - so continued labouring and was examined again at 9ish to be told i was 9cm dilated - Started pushing at about 10pm and after an hour of pushing Brodie's heartbeat began to decrease and they said i needed to go to theatre for a forceps delivery and to have a spinal block - I was so disappointed that after all that time i was going to need a spinal but after 50 hours in labour i couldn't wait to meet my baby and find out if he was a boy or a girl - Got taken to theatre just after 11pm and then started pushing again at 11:37pm and Brodie was born at 11:40pm - The reason he got stuck earlier was he was slightly back to back and in a bad position for birth !
My husband cut the cord and we are the happiest proudest parents
Hope all you ladies - especially Lynda B and Spedshaw have your babies soon and hope the labour isnt as long as mine's but remember even if it is - your babies will be here soon and i know it's a cliche but the pain is all worth it and you soon forget it when your baby is in your arms
Lots of love
A very very happy HappyG & Brodie

Wow, what a long old time you've had! I'm so pleased that you've finally got to meet your lo- another one of the August 6th babies has arrived! I love the name. I hope you have a really speedy recovery and get plenty of rest- enjoy the time getting to know Brodie.
I'm also looking forward to hearing from Lynda and Spedshaw, Lynda was going in to be induced yesterday so fingers crossed we should be seeing some more arrival notices soon!

Though he was weighed on Tuesday and he'd lost a few oz.. hoping he's making up for lost time now though as i can't fill him quick enough!

Congratulations on the birth of Brodie and Well Done Leah on what seems to be a traumatic labour, but as you say all worth it when you meet your lo.
So glad to have noticed your post as I was thinking about you the other day. What a whooper, you did well pal.
Enjoy your wee man (oops big man) and chat soon.
With love and best wishes
Lynnie (Lexi will be 6mths on Sunday)

Hey Lynne
Thanks for your message
Good to hear from you. All the pain of labour is now forgotten now that i have my wee boy - all though he was 10 lb 3 1/2 he was really long so doesnt look that big - so he's still my wee man !!!!
Cant believe Lexi is going to be 6 months tomorrow - how time flies - bet she is still teeny tiny

Leah!
I say 'HappyG' come up and wondered if it was the same person as from Y&YW! (I was AmandaCS)
Had no idea you were expecting, or that you'd had a baby already. Congratulations to you and hubby, Brodie is a cutie.
You know, I never did get that brown spotty dress - still regret it!
Congrats again
Amanda

I'm really well, life is good
We've been married 15 months now and still very happy. Hasn't the time flown by?!
Am 5 months pregnant, due end Jan. We needed IVF to get pregnant, but that's cos I'm an old bird. Still, we were very lucky and it worked first time. I've given up my job already, was too much like hard work to cope with that and baby, so am a stay-home mummy-to-be. Am loving it, was born to be a lady of leisure
Is great to 'see' you, and am so thrilled about your little boy, he's a treasure.

I know - they do say time flies when you are having fun - Andrew and I have been married 16 months now and we couldn't be happier - Brodie has made our wee family complete - For now - would like at least one more but not for a wee while yet.
Lol - you aren't old - glad the IVF worked first time - it must have been a very stressful time for you - and it will all be worth it when your wee baby arrives in 4 months time.
Wish i could give up work - loving being at home but think i'll need to go back when Brodie is about 6 months - my Sister in law is going to have him when i am at work so i know he will be in good hands.
Keep in touch - do you still have my e-mail address ?
Oh do yo know if you are having a pink or blue bundle of Joy ?
