Subject : Trying for another baby?

My son will be 1 in 2 weeks and I was diagnosed with PND when he was 2 weeks. I am now off my Anti-Depressents and my husband and I have started talking about trying for baby number 2. My husband is worried it might be too soon after coming off my tablets (I have been off the pills for 3 weeks). I feel ready to start trying but wondered what you think?

Personally I'd wait, for a couple of reasons.........
Your son (who is gorgeous btw!) may seem easy now but he'll be nearing the terrible 2's by the time the next one is born and when he's being stroppy and demanding and into everything (sorry if that sounds like i'm being mean, i don't mean to be) you'll have your hands full with a newborn to look after and he may find it hard to understand.
Also lots of women seem to get pregnant much quicker the 2nd time round so if you do as well then will you have had enough time to adjust to being off your anti depressants and be completely confident that you can manage before you have another? You don't want the worry of another lot of PND affecting your next pregnancy. I just think if you wait just for 2 or 3 months it'll barely make the a difference to the age gap but might give you and your OH piece of mind.
Good luck whatever you decide
x

i have just started trying for baby no 2 and came off my anti depressants at the same time!!!!
I know i should have waited but i really want another asap, i am worried about pnd but i know if i get it again, i have a great doctor who i know will listen to me and help me!

I suffered from depression before i had my son anyway, so its something that i think will always be a problem for me!
My son is only 8 months and i'm pretty sure that i am pregnant already, i have all the symptoms but very early yet so not definate!

I think if it feels right for you, go for it!

Good luck xx

Thanks for your replies. We have decided to wait a few months, financially and also so that Joshua will be a bit older and a bit easier to handle! Thank you for your comment on how gorgeous he is, I think so too!...(not that I am biased...lol)

This is really interesting ladies - thanks for being brave enough to post your thoughts. I have been wondering about whether to try for no.2. I think I only had mild PND and PN-Anxiety, but it is still a worry, and i still get bits of it every now and then. Matthew is 16m and we won't try yet, but i think we may in a few months.
Good luck Annieuk when you try and fingers crossed Samantha.
Lovely pics ladies.

hi ladies, i haven't had pnd depression myself but my friend is suffering terribly at the moment, she had it after her 1st and again after her 2nd(20mth gap), this time it has been much worse, she has been in hospital twice and she is not allowed to have the kids on her own at the moment, until she's seen a consultant again and got the o.k from him!!
i don't want to scare anyone or put them off, but i hate seeing my friend go through this and it's been tough on the kids and her oh too. maybe it would be a good idea to speak to your hv or gp for some advice
take care and good luck
