Subject : waiting for milk to dry up without the pain

hi,

i read on another post that it took a few weeks for everyones milk to dry up.

i was expressing my milk and the stopped a week ago as couldn't keep up the supply to satisfy baby and was becoming apparent that he was never going to brestfeed.

i am now left with painful stinging breasts. is this normal? i am expressing a little bit of milk off about twice a day but this is not helping.

Hi, I had very painful breasts for a couple of wks after I stopped bf. I had been told by my midwife not to express as it encourages milk production. I did find that a really hot bath helped to soothe them I would also air them for about half an hour (have a towel handy if you do this!). They were really painful, but I did find that taking paracetamol helped. I stopped bf 8wks ago and still leaking a lot, but the pain has gone completley.

thank-you for the advice.

have stopped expressing now as figured that was encouraging the milk production but was really hard and had to let some of the milk out! still get the pain though. have noticed a decrease in the amount of milk leaking out. guess it'll take a bit of time.

cabbage leaves?? might investigate that one further

cabbage leaves do work, i only had pain for 4-5 days after Ellie was born. get the big leafy cabbages and put them in the fridge and then put them on your boobs, its a medical fact, your HV or midwife should have told you about them. x

yep cabbage leaves have something that helps to dry up milk when put into you bra. have you tryed putting a bag of frozzen peas or cold wet flamal on your boobs to help reduce any swelling. i found that it really helped with the pain. hope you feel better soon x.
