When I told an old boss of mine that we're having a baby, he said:

Quote:

my standard future father advice is ...
encourage the missus to breast feed
it has multiple benefits:
1) You can't do the feeding, therefore you can sleep
2) They grow

And before there are any comments from a lurking woman who's having a bad day... it's a joke! As much as I think there are lots of benefits of breastfeeding, and really hope that my wife will be able to breast feed (our sister in law had problems, and ended up having to express/use formula all the time, which seemed like a lot of work), I don't want my wife to feel that it's all down to her... and from a selfish point of view, I really enjoyed bottle feeding our little nephew, and would feel really left out if I couldn't feed our baby. Whether it'll be through expressing or formula, we'll make sure that we can bottle feed as well, so that I can do at least some of the night time feeding, and to make it possible for family to baby sit if we're away for an evening.

My husband absolutely agrees with that, lol.

I must say that as tired as you are when breastfeeding, there's no use you both being up in the middle of the night, and bf daddies can get up at 6.30 instead of mummies, lol.

Like your discussion, and totally agree with the responsibility sharing during the night feeds. Otherwise nobody can survive it ;-)
