Subject : oh coming to see MW??

Just wondering if your otherhalves went to all your appointments with you or if not all, which ones?

Im making my first appointment this week and really want to make it for first thing in the morning. Im the kind of person who gets v.nervous about these things and would like to get it out the way. However, OH can't get time off work but would be able to make a late afternoon appointment.

What are your thoughts on him not being there? Obviously he'll be at the scans but would he be missing out if he weren't at the others?x

personally i wouldnt think he would be missing out untill the 16 weeks check with midwife as thats when they normally listen for the heartbeat . but at the others they basically just check blood pressure, urine sample, sometimes take blood and feel your tummy so pretty boring!!!!

My OH hasn't been to any appointments yet apart from scans. He's going to go to the next one so he can hear the heart beat cos he's starting to get really excited as well now! I don't think it's necessary for OH's to go, most of it is routine and boring!

My oh never went to any appointments. He's an old fashioned guy and wouldn't want to come and I never wanted him there either. I dont think it appealed to him watching me get my BP and urine checked lol and I had a doppler so he heard the heartbeat at home. He never comes to baby clinic now my lo's born either, or appointments, he is coming to his injections but that's it. Having said that everyone must think I'm a single mum as everyone else always had their oh's waiting with them....each to their own!! x

Mine hasn't come to any m/w appts but now that I get to hear the heartbeat when I go I think he might come to the next one, after my 20 week scan.

In a way I'm surprised midwives are happy to have partners to first appts - I know that when I had mine she asked some fairly probing questions about the baby's father and whether there was any possibility of me being in any "physical danger" during the pregnancy (obviously she wasn't rude and she apologised for having to ask, but it was on a list of questions).

I think is a really personal thing which varies alot. I didnt think my oh would want to come to every appointment with the midwife but he is very keen to which is nice, but I wouldnt have minded if he hadnt wanted to either. I think the scans are the most important ones xx

With my first child my oh came to every appointment i had but thats mainly because it was all new and he was wanting to know what was going on but with this one he's only gone to the scans because the ones with the midwife are pretty much just a check up of your bump size, checking for anything in a urine sample and asking how you are. Obviously he could go when they start checking the heartbeat because that can be nice for them but even that my partner left this time round and just bought me my own fetal doppler so i can check whenever i feel like it. I recommend one of these to all expectant mums because they put your mind at rest if baby is in lazy mode and not moving arond as much. Good luck to all. xxx

Takers was at my booking in appt but that was because mw came to our house and he was working from home! He popped in for some of it as mw askes for his family history - which I didn't know!

My next appt was my 12wk scan, which he came to as well. He was planning on coming to my 16wk appt but mainly because I have to see the consultant rather than midwife, but he's having an operation on tuesday and his follow-up check up is at the same time as mine so he can't now. I think he's trying to change his so he can come which is fab.

I love the fact that he wants to come with me as it feels so supportive. I did everything on my own with SBJr and so I am enjoying having Takers with me through everything Happy

Dh came to my first appointment, scans and the appointments directly after the scan when we got blood test results. He came to a check up one at 24 weeks so he could hear the heartbeat. The other couple i have had i went on my own. It was my choice though. My midwife is only at the clinic on Friday morning and I dont see any point him wasting holidays for a 10 minute appointment where they take blood and check blood pressure.

It is nice to have them with you but they arent really missing out.

My OH cames with me to both of our scans, but as a general rule he doesn't come to midwife appointments - i don't see the point they are so short! Saying that he came to my 28 week one because he just so happened to have the day off, and he'd never heard the heartbeat. As he's in a commission based job he loses money if he doesn't work, as a result he's not even coming to ante-natal classes with me, which i don't mind but he is gutted about. I think that i can fill him in on everything he misses though xxx

Mine came to my 14 week check because she had said at my previous app she would listen for the heartbeat.... It was the first time we both heard it as well (since then have got a doppler), he has come to both my scans and will be at my antenatal classes but he hasn't bothered with my other appointments.... Though I do have a follow up with my consultant after my UTI on wednesday and he's said he'll be there

MW appointment are not really of any interest to men as it is you they are seeing. Scans are different though but again, they don't need to be there, it's pretty routine and boring - it is only a medical check up. If they have the day off or something and nothing better to do then great, may as well go along.

Thanks all. Given me more of an idea what to expect. Think he'll come to the booking in one, the scans and any with results but he wont be missing out on any of the routine ones.

My hubby came to the booking in one but hasnt been to any since, he's come to all the scans and consultant appointments though. To be honest after the booking in one until about 34 weeks nothing interesting happens at the mw's appointments, she'll just take your bp, check you wee listen to baby and after about 24 weeks measure your bump but thats it! At 34 weeks she'll probably start talking about ante-natal classes and birth plan and will probably be able to tell you a bit more about the position baby is in.

My hubby has been in Afghan for the majority of my m/w appts - he came to the booking in appt and came to one last week to listen to the heartbeat - he loved it! He has missed out on the routine scans too so we had a 4d - was amazing!!

I think its nice if he is able to come with you and he can ask any questions he might have. Its up to both of you really whatever you would like.

My husband was at scans and just 1 of my appts.. he couldn't make my 16 wk appt when they 1st listened to heartbeat and he was gutted, but came to the next 1 at 24 wks so he could hear.

To be honest.. my appts have been so quick that if he'd had to take time off work he'd have wasted his time!!
