Subject : Sorry - this question has been asked so many times!

Is it okay to colour your hair whilst pregnant. Up to now I've been a blonde and always had highlights (foils) so i know this is okay as it doesn't touch your scalp. However I'd like to go dark and said to my hairdresser that some time in the future i'd like an 'all over' dark colour with some low lights through it but is it safe in pregnancy or should i wait till after i've had lo. xx

Only problems I've heard of is the colourant reacting differently than expected due to the extra hormones rushing thru the body! Think that occurs with going lighter rather than darker so you may be ok. Just dbl chk with ur hairdresser and maybe suggest a tester patch done first and go from there.

Hi,

My hairdresser advised me against it - the chemicals shouldn't really be on your scalp. Foils are fine. I usually have a deep brown all over but its pretty light at the mo as I don't want to go against what my hairdresser says (shes my sister in law!!)

I've been having mine done and hairdresser and midwife said it was fine.

Definitely have a strand test done though - I normally had a red colour put on but it went pink!! My hairdresser rescued me thankfully and we now have different colour LOL! I've also noticed the dye comes out more than it did - quite often get red dye on my towel or pillow when its first done, which didn't happen before.

Hi,

it should be fine - tho i avoided it cos i just didn't feel like it! a friend who was pg just before me always coloured her hair darker - she got it done at hairdressers and it came out orange! i think that put me off, tho being pg has made me very grey now - not good at 27!

Lara xx
