Subject : Obstetrics hospital appt??
Hi girls!
When I arrived back from my hols today there was a letter waiting for me from my local NHS trust.
I wasn't expecting anything, but apparently I have an appt at the hospital with an obstetrics consultant that my GP has referred me for at 25 weeks?
I know from the little timetable the mw gave me at my booking-in appt that I am supposed to see her at 25 wks, but I have no idea what this hospital appt is for???
The letter gives no hint why, and I can't call the mw/doc's over the weekend, so I was kinda hoping somebody on here might know why?
I'm a first time mother at 36, and I do have asthma, so maybe it's because of this?? No idea though!
Can anyone shed any light on this please?!

Hi i can only say that i'm also 36 though not a first time mum, i'm pregnant with twins and a bit overweight and i also have the same appointment as you, for me it's to see a consultant due to the twins, so like you say it might be for your asthma.

Hi Silvalady - I can totally understand if you are expecting twins, so I can only assume it's beacuse of my asthma.
Would have been nice of my doctor to let me know she had referred me when I saw her 2 and a half weeks ago, she had the chance to tell me then, I don't know!!
I've seen on another forum that it can be a total waste of time as most of what they do your mw could do anyway. And if they try and come near me with needles for blood they can get lost! You have to have bloods at 28 wks anyway, so they're not practicing on me!!! I bruise too easily!
They are moving the antenatal care in our area about so maybe it's to discuss my options, it's so frustrating having to second-guess what it's for. Roll on monday so i can call my mw up!

i think if you look in your maty notes there is a checklist such as increased weight, older mum etc and that would be the indication to see a consultant. i do anyway at the moment as i have diabetes but mw mostly does all the work- bloods etc.

Im going to see my consultant at the hospital next week after a drs referral but that is because i have been suffering with bad headaches, you could ring your dr and ask what your appointment is for? your dr should have told you really, just so you dont worry, but look on the bright side at least they are looking after you, thats what i think after being there all the time at the mo! xx

Whilst you obviously want to know why, I would be glad that an obstetrician was checking me out, given that it's their speciality! I'm sure all is fine, just be happy for the extra special attention ;-)
