Subject : Still don't know due date!

Hi All,

Just wondered if anyone else was in the same situation as me?

At my 20 week scan they asked me to come in for a growth scan in a months time which I had this morning as the baby was a lot bigger than the normal. There was a lot of umming and arhhhing a consultant was called and eventually they said they still couldn't be sure if he was just big or if I was in fact further along. They didn't want to change my original due date but said I should expect an early delivery either way and to come back in another 4 weeks for another growth scan so they could review my dates again.

Its been consistent growth from the first scan and they told me that had they (St.Thomas's) done the first scan (instead of Lewisham) they would have changed my dates.

My blood and urine tests are all ok so it's not gestational diabetes and they didn't seem to think that was the issue anyway.

I checked and rechecked my dates and they are correct (I was recording everything as I was told I was going to have problems getting pregnant). So basically I just don't know.

But they told me that I looked like I was 28wk+2 instead of 26wk+2!

It's ironic as I have the smallest bump! Am I about to give birth to a giant?!

Don't know what to do about maternity leave now? I am a planner and this has thrown me a bit...maybe this is the babies way of telling me 'hey mum go with the flow'?

Any thoughts ladies?

Thanks,

Thats a bit far fetched you would think they would have at least put your mind at rest or got you to come back quicker than in 4 weeks Surprised I was told to expect my lil boy at about 25weeks as i was so big, but the little bugeer decided he was happy in there and was 5 days over my DD, They also told me he woud be at least 10lb but no he was only 7lb 5oz and 48cm long, my friend had to go for constant growth scans with her son and was told her baby was far to small would only be about 3/4lb shes about 5"8 and is built like a stick and had the tinyiest of bumps as well but she was only 2 days early and her son was 6lb 11oz and 54cm, so i would just get ready for the date the first gave you, maybe a week before as sometime they like to pop out before :) hope this helped, doctors and midwifes often dont have a clue what to say, most of them dont have kids them selfs and take it from a book, which isnt always right

Thanks Lisa.

Got myself in to a bit of a state worrying I was eating something wrong. But your comments really help :-) Its good to know that they get it wrong and can be so far out. I trawled the internet but very few people with the same issue, so its good to know I am not alone. Decided to go on Maternity a couple of weeks earlier (at the end of August).

Will just make sure they keep doing my bloods and urine just in case.

ta very much,
