Subject : My Baby (finally) arrived!!!

Hi everyone!

Got 5 mins to post my birth story...

Following on from the story of my hospital visit and all the fuss over whether I would have to have a c section last thurs, and then managing to talk my consultant into agreeing to try an induction on friday...

Saw mw last thurday at 2.30pm and had another sweep, she said that i was 2 cm dilated and reckoned that they would be able to break my waters when i went in on friday. got home, realised that i was having mild contractions again...by about 8pm, they were much stronger than the ones on tuesday and coming 4-5 mins again. had just had shower so waited until i had dried and straightened my hair (trust me, i look like i have put my fingers in a socket without straighteners so wasn't going anywhere until had done hair!) and then called mum, had my sister collect my daughter and rang hosp about 10.30pm and was told to go in due to previous section.

Got to hosp, was taken to delivery room and examined (was in quite a lot more pain by then) and told that i was not even effaced and certainly not dilated so i would have to go to ward to sleep and wait for induction as planned for following day. Refused and cried till they let me home lol. Went home and went to bed.

Woke up, contractions pretty much stopped. Went to hospital at 1pm for induction, and when examined, was told that i was 2cm dilated (again?!?) and they managed to break my waters at 2pm. went to delivery room, was monitored constantly till about 6pm and then allowed to walk around for an hour. contractions got a lot stronger then so was really hopeful that things were moving along but when examined at 7pm, i was still 2cm dilated and baby had moved back up a bit! mw called doctor and they decided to risk a couple of hours of drip to see if that helped and was given gas n air (fab stuff!!!). After 2 hours and pain becoming unbearable even with g&a, I was examined and had only reached 3cm. i burst into tears then as it was clear that i was going to end up with another section. consultant came and agreed to give epidural, try 2 more hours on drip and attach monitor to babies head...but when he tried to attach the monitor to bubs head, he had completely disengaged again so was advised to have another section as things getting too risky for me to carry on when clearly i was not going to do things naturally.

So off i went to theatre and baby Braedon was finally delivered at 8 minutes past midnight on saturday 28th june. was told that there is officially something wrong with my body in that the really powerful contractions i was having are somehow not connecting properly to my cervix and i would never be able to give birth naturally :-( I am broken!!!!

Anyhow, I came home from hospital late on Monday after a hot uncomfortable couple of days. Braedon is perfect, feeding and sleeping really well and although i have been really up and down about how i feel about the birth and been very sore from the op, am feeling much better today and realise that my baby arrived safely in the end and thats the important thing.

Sorry this is really really long post!

You are NOT "crap at this birth stuff" (I read your other post). Theres nothing 2 be ashamed of having a section - hey at least you're still the same down there!!!

Congratulations Claudia. Your story sound very similar to mine and I understand how confusing it can feel afterwards. It helped to talk it through with my husband as he was there through the whole thing and he helped me to 'get things straight' in my head.

Welcome to the world Braedon

Congratulations!

Bless you, You're not crap at all, you have managed to grow not one but two little human beings with only a slight bit of help from your oh at the begining!!! So you're quite wonderful in my opinion!!!

Take care of yourself, and it truely doesn't matter how they get out in the end, just that you love them...x

Congratulations and well done. I know its awful not to get the birth you hope for and second time round too but you should be proud. I am too hoping for a vbac this time round and am very nervous but in the end as long as baby arrives safely and healthy thats all that matters. I wish you a speedy recovery hun
