Subject : Good news at hospital checkup
Kenny had a routine check up on monday and the doctor is really pleased with him. He is reaching all his milestones by his corrected age, heart murmur definately gone and his umbilical hernia is tiny now. He will have one more appointment in 4 months and if everything is ok then he will be discharged from the clinic.
We can stop giving him his vitamins too because he is eating 3 meals a day so now he only takes Gaviscon for his reflux. I tried to reduce his dose of the Gav the other week and it was almost back to square one again and the doctor says that some babies dont stop puking until they are walking so he might be on that for a while yet but I will keep trying to reduce it now and again to see if he still needs it.
He now 7 months actual age and weighs 17lb 10oz and im so proud of him.

Thats great well done Kenny. Sounds as if he is coming on great and getting really big. Kara was 8 months corrected age on Tuesday and when I got her weighed 2 weeks ago she was 15lb 14oz and the HV was really pleased with her.

Well done Kara, its great to see our babies thriving despite a scary start.
I was sorting through Kenny's old clothes the other day and come across his first tiny babygrow and I cant believe he was that small, 4lb 4oz.

That's great you must be so chuffed, he obviously has a great mummy !!
Denise can I ask what weight Kenny was at roughly 17 weeks old, I ask because Lexi was born 3 weeks early due to pre-eclampais (so not classed as premature) she weighed 4lb 12 but glad to report did not need to go to SCBU and has rdone really well since. Just wondering how Lexi is doing in line with Kenny as they were similar weights. And it seems my antanatal class babies ae HUGE compared to Lexi and I could do with some reasurance.
Oh this week (17 weeks) Lexi weighs 12lb 6 oz. I am exclusivley bf and have started some baby rice (just wee tastes) which is going realy well.
Cheers ma dear x
Am I right thinking you are from Scotland too, I stay in Livingston.

Thanks girls
Hi Lynne yes im from Edinburgh, was Lexi born in St Johns? Kenny was 11lb 4oz at 17 weeks. Well done keeping up the breast feeding, your Lexi is thriving you should be proud of yourself.
Kenny will probably be a little small for his age for a while but should catch up by the age of 2.

Thanks for the reply Denise !!
Some of Lexi's baby pals are 18/19lbs already.......... I think she is doing great but it's nice to see a comparison to birth weights (although I know Kenny was premature, so it's different) you know what I mean, I'm sure.
Yeah had our little Lexi in St Johns, they were absolutley fantastic. As I mentioned I developed pre-eclampsia but it was not detected until 37 weeks and it was not text book, no swelling or headaches etc.... (Lexi must have stopped growing at around 33 weeks, I know as I had a scan at 32 wks due to small bump measurements) I started to get really sore pains in my liver one night and took myself to hospital and within hours I had my baby by emegency c-section !!
Nice to chat with you, where in Edinburgh do you live, I come from Eburgh, Easter Rd, then we stayed in Crew Toll b4 moving to Livingston.
Do you work, have you went back yet? I need to start covering annual leave this week, not looking forward to it like, but my sister is going to look after Lexi for me.
We Kennys piccie is soooooooooooooo cute !!

Hi Lynne, im living in Leith just now. Thats a bit scary your pre-eclamsia wasnt diagnosed sooner, how often were you having your blood pressure done?
Iv been back to work for a month now and its taking time getting used to it, I miss Kenny so much. I work in a busy hospital ward and do 13 hour shifts so im knackered. The grandparents are helping out with child care and he loves getting spoiled from his grannies.
Thats great your sister can look after Lexi, I dont feel bad about leaving him cause I know he will be fine with them. Are you going back part-time?

My bp was borderline so they were keeping a eye on it !! Well these things can happen eh, I just focus on Lexi now and don't really dwell on the birth experience, just sooooooooooo glad everything went okay.
I'm not surprised your knackered, 13hr shifts on a ward............. do you work local? . My sister is a nurse at St Johns and has 2 boys, don't know how she does the 12hrs shifts either, but you just gotta get on wi it eh.
I am lucky with my work as it is my own business, so when I return I can be fairly flexible with my hrs, I can also do work from home (which I have been since Lexi born), jst a few hours here and there though. The thing is one of my most experienced staff is also on mat leave just now, she had her baby boy 1 week before me, so not ideal timing but loving sharing baby talk as she is aslo a really good friend.
take care and sorry for hyjacking your "good news" thread.
Lynne x

Hi Lynne, thats great that your able to be so flexible at work, im sure you will end up working as little as possible cause you will miss her so much.
I work in the Astley Ainslie Hospital in Morningside. Im having to go up there on my days off too cause my gran is a patient there just now. She loves seeing Kenny and he really seems to cheer everyone else up too. All the grannies and nurses in her ward have had a cuddle and he just laps it all up.
What business are you in? How is Lexi getting on with her rice. I started weaning Kenny at about 20 weeks and he really started chucking the weight on after that.

I hope your gran is okay Denise !! I can just imagine all the oldies spoiling Kenny, if he is half as cute as his avatar photo. I used to drive past your work everyday when I worked at Causewayside, don't miss the traveling like, I now work in Livingston. I work in printing for the direct mail industry, design and bespoke work, we are a broker and it is a great job we do work for a lot of the large advertising agencys in Eburgh.
I went to work today and left Lexi with my sister, she was really good, I am so proud of her and me for not freaking out !! I did miss her but my sister loves her so much she is brilliant with Lexi. It is the first time I have left Lexi for more than 1hr since she was born, PHEW, so glad it went well. Takes the pressure off knowing she can take a wee bottle of formula, we had a real problem getting Lexi to take a bottle of ebm hence not leaving her until today.
I am giving Lexi wee tastes just now and it seems to be going well, just taking it easy for rice and pureed fruit for now. What does Kenny like best, I bet it's the puddings?
I forgot to ask, did you go nto labour early with Kenny or was there complications during pregnancy that you had to have him early? My one worry during pregnancy was having a small baby, as I had not really had much hands on experience and I thought a bigger baby would be easier to look after, still can't believe I bought a 4lb 8oz baby home from hospital.
email soonest Lynne x

Thats great that Lexi had a good day with your sister, how many times did you text her?
Kenny also had trouble at first with the EBM but he soon got the hang of it. Kenny loved butternut squash, parsnips, carrots, apples and pears, they are all quite sweet and easy to digest. He has reflux and used to throw up everywhere. I was 32+5 when I had a small bleed, sent to Simpsons and turns out I was in early labour. Labour was on and off from the Wednesday for 2 days so I got two steroid jags to mature Kenny's lungs. On the Friday afternoon things started again, got the midwife who gave me paracetamol and then doctor came and he said I was 9cm dilated and it was too late for any other pain relief apart from gas and air! Kenny was born an hour after that and he was in such good shape I got to cuddle him for a few minutes before he was whipped away to the Neonatal Unit. Thankfully he had no serious problems, he was just too small to suckle and was fed through a tube for a couple of weeks with EBM before he managed a good feed himself. He was 4lb 9oz when discharged and was tiny in his pram like Lexi probably was.
Do you have a photo of Lexi.
take care
denise

Oh Denise, that must have been a really scary experience..... so glad he was fine and needed grow and strengthen himself up mostly, bless.
I did not text my sister I called her, although I was under strict instructions not to but just needed to make sure, I was only away for 3 hrs. I actually quite enjoyed seeing my work mates and being "Lynne" again if that makes sense.
Does Kenny sleep through the night yet, Lexi is getting there, she goes to bed at 6/7ish and wakes for a wee sook at 11ish, then wakes for a proper feed at 2/3ish then we get up at 6/7ish........ this is great as I still think a feed during the night at 19wks for bf babies is fine, although really looking forward to getting 8 hrs shut eye soon, I need a pair of matchsticks somedays.
Have you had many nights out with your oh/friends yet, it's my birthday (33rd) at end of July so hopefully me and hubby will get out to town for a few drinks (yeah), really looking forward to a nice glass (bottle) of chilled wine soon x (really peed off I have not even managed to see SATC yet... soon though, cosmopolitains here I come....)
I have lots of gorgeous photos, I have tried to set up my avatar but it says picture to big, arghhhhhhhhh, I so want to show of my Girl !x!
Take care and chat soon

Thats lovely news Denise. Well Done Kenny. Amelia is 19 weeks nearly and weighs about 13lb at a guess. Will take her next week. she was 12 8 last week so presuming she has put on weight (def has) then my guess as I say is 13lb something or other. She was 5lb 70z at 35 weeks. Needed SCBU for one week due to phototherapy and she could not mantain her temp so stayed in incubator. She could suck tho so came out for each feed. i was lucky that the SCBU was just a room on the maternity ward. they only have room for 2 babies as its a very small hospital. I could see the door to it if my bedroom door was open. it was nice to be able to pop to see her when I wanted. Think it helped my milk too as could hear her cry.
Your baby was earlier so its great to hear he is reaching his milestones. Such a releif.
You and Lynne doing well to be back at work. I not working at present as Amelia my 5th and we live in Middle East due to OH work so no family to help out. Also, if you come in with your OH they stamp your passport UNABLE TO WORK so that spouses are not talking jobs away from locals. You can work but its illegal and you could get into heaps of trouble. Not worth it really. With 5 kids I work but just dont get paid!!! lol.

Hi deedee. Thats great that she is piling on the weight. Is your avator Amelia, she is gorgeous.
I would love to be a full time mum, I feel like im missing out on these moments of him doing something new for the first time and I miss it.
Kenny has been sleeping through for about 3 months now. He is in bed 6.30-7.30pm and wakes anytime between 6.30 - 8am. On my days off he usually wakes at 6.30, im sure he knows I want a long lie!!
Iv been out a few times and in May me and OH went to a wedding in Ireland for 5 days and Kenny stayed with his grandparents, I just couldnt wait to get home to him.
My photos also said this, you have to reduce the size of the photo. Davie did this for me so iv no idea how to do it.
Where are you going for your birthday?

Yeah Lexie is the same when it's me giving daddy a long lie at the weekends up really early, I am sure they know too.
Well Done you on going to the wedding, bet he gave you the biggest smile when you got home. It's a good thing them spending time away from mummy and daddy, just hard eh.
I got my photo uploaded whoohoo, that's my girl.
Not sure where we will go for my bday yet, would like to go to Edinburgh but maybe just go somewhere local with hubby for now.
Lynne x

Now watch what you are doing whilst having that long lie mind ...........oh er missus, as my best friend recently found out she was expecting again, all a bit of a unexpected surprise and guess what, she went for her scan today and it's TWINS. She already has 3 kids (10,5 and 11mths) this has all come as a total shock, really don't know how she is gonna manage like OMG !!
Yeah I used to like a good drink on a night out to, but the thought of a hangover these days, think I will pass on that for now eh. One thing for sure is Brian will love it as I will be a cheap date lol x

Twins!! OMG. Are they over the shock yet. Her older kids will be able to help out. My stepson is 13 and he is brilliant with Kenny, watching him when im busy in the kitchen and feeding him etc.
We went out last night and it was a good night, yawning at 10 but stayed out till 11.30, wow. (i used to get home at 4ish after a night oot!) Its my birthday next month, im 32 and I would like to go the the Stand Comedy Club then somewhere for drinks after but I will probably end up with a carry out and a chinese.
What do you want for your birthday? I handed Davie an empty perfume bottle the other day and reminded him its my birthday soon, just a small hint. Lol
