Subject : Might seem like an odd question...

...but did any of you ladies who have had their baby have a colposcopy and biopsy before getting pregnant. If you did, did you go into premature labour?

I had an abnormal smear result earlier this year and had to have a colposcopy and biopsy done in early March. I got pregnant in April.

I was told by the doctor when I had the colposcopy done that they are linked with premature labour so I am a little concerned as SBJr was 9 days early so not sure if I should expect this one even earlier, especially as I got pregnant so quickly after the colposcopy I'm wondering if my cervix had time to recover enough.

Anyone had experience of this??

I had an abnormal smear result last September but I fell pregnant in October. They are not too concered and said they will do a smear as soon as they can after the baby and I have recovered. I don't know about the other bit of your question - sorry!

Louise.

Hiya SB

My little boy is nearly 7 months old but when I had my post natel smear my results came back with CIN3, I had to have a colposcopy and a cone bioposy which thankfully came back all clear. However the Dr that did it advised that sometimes and more often its when you have had numerous ones done the cervix is not strong enough to hold the growing weight of the baby. She gave me the impression that this would happen very early on, and that to stop this from happening its possible to get a stitch in your cervix around 12/14 weeks to keep the baby 'in' and this is removed when you get to term and you are left to go in to labour naturally. I didnt ask too many questions at the time as having another baby is a few years off for me!!

Perhaps you should mention it to your midwife??? Im sure there was a post on the pregnacy forum a little while ago by someone who had had a stitch removed and was waiting to go in to labour, I cant remember why she had one put in but it might be worth posting there??

Good luck and let me know how you get on as I would be interested to know for future reference

Hx

Hi SB! I had over 2 thirds of my cervix removed for CIN3. Went into labour 2 weeks early (The same as I did with my others). The only difference I found was that i had a longer labour, as I still had a 'lip' on my cervix -(swollen area) that was preventing my lo from moving down. I assume that this could possibly have been caused by scar tissue??? As soon as my mw manipulated it out of the way he arrived within 5 mins.

I did however suffer from bleeding throughout my pregnancy from week 11. On occassion much more than a period.

Try not to worry though and speak to your mw. She should be able to advise you
Good Luck
Caz xx

Hi Saint Bertie, I had a colposcopy and a cone biopsy done in 2003, I was told that I wouldn't be able to carry a pregnancy to term because of the amount of my cervix they had removed!! In March I gave birth to my son, Henry who arrive 16 days late weighing 10lbs 4ozs!!!!! Shows what doctors know sometimes!!!!
I'm sure you'll be fine, good luck with the rest of your pregnancy!!

SBJr was 38+5 so guess it would be similar to him then.

I'm seeing the consultant on the 16th so will stick it on my list of things to ask her!
