Subject : Advice on getting dad involved

Hi Everyone,

I'm just looking for some advice. My husband works away in the oil and gas industry quite a lot (he's due home a week today yippie), then he should be home for a few weeks. The problem is although he's excited about our baby, he seems scared to touch my tummy or listen to the baby with the dopler device thing. Also he won't read the books and gets mad in i nag him about them. I'm 22weeks and baby is kicking like a maniac. Just anyone who has ideas how to help him bond and get involved would be really apprechiated.

Hi

This may be a little too soon for you just yet but its definitely worth reading for when your baby arrives. There's an excellent article on the Pregnancy channel of this website from Tommee Tippee with advice and suggestions on how to get dad involved with breast-feeding. There's some really good tips and ideas so check it out!

Hi love cake!
When my husband and I (b4 we were married) were pregnant with our first, he got really scared and left me. Right b4 we had her he came around, the day she was born, he was there, and she's been the apple of his eye ever since. Our daughter and him are attatched at the hips!

I'm saying fatherhood can be scarry, especially if he didn't have a super great role model for a daddy. He may feel like he won't know what to do and that he doesn't want to mess up and feel like a failure.

Let him come around. The baby isn't here yet, for men it can be creepie to get close to the baby or touch the baby in your belly.
Once the baby is here and in his arms you will notice a HUGE change his heart will just melt.

But if he gets funny or lazy, maybe ask him for help. Like when your baby get up at night, ask if he can just bring the baby to you. That will get him to hold the baby and calm the baby down when crying. When you have the first bath ask that he has the camera ready or ask him to bathe the baby while you take pictures! It will make a fun day and memory. These are just little ideas to help him bond and get attatched.

I hope I helped??

God Bless
