Subject : New to everything!!
Hi all,
I'm new to this site and motherhood, and have a few questions hoping you can help me with!!.
Baby Jack is now 3 months and weighing 10lb he was born 6 weeks early, he has 5 bottles per day each time he takes around 5 to 6 oz, we are thinking of trying him on baby rice soon, but not sure when we should??, when should he sleep through?, will that be when he goes onto solids or before???, sorry to go on with all the questions!!!! but as you all know they don't come with a manual lol xx

Congratulations on the birth of Jack and welcome to the premature forum.
Kenny was 7 weeks early and started to sleep through the night at about 4 months and I introduced solids at 5 months. For advice on weaning a premature baby I recommend you visit the Bliss Premature Baby Charity website and they have leaflets you can read online, download or they can send one out to you in the post. They recommend to wean between 5-7 months and look for signs your baby is ready for something more than milk.
5 bottles a day sounds about right and as long as he seems content between feeds and putting on weight fine just carry on as you are.
Good luck and I hope you get a decent nights sleep soon.

Congratulations on becoming a mummy to Jack!
Morgana was 8 weeks early and started sleeping through at about 4 months and I started weaning her at 5 1/2 months. I requested the weaning booklet from Bliss (its free) which was helpful and the Annabel Karmel books also have a section on weaning premature babies. It sounds like he's feeding well, the amount sounds good and as long as he's happy with it and putting on weight, it's fine.

Congratulations.
Kara was born at 34+4 weeks and was 9 months yesterday. She has always been a good sleeps and just stirred at night when she was in our room. Usually we just put the dummy in. The sleeping like this has started probably from about 4-5 months as she cut out the bottle during the night herself which I was lucky for. However since we moved her into her own room in the cot about 3-4 weeks ago she sleeps all night from 8pm - 6.30am then gets a bottle and sleeps with me for about an hour then (I know I am bad).
As far as weaning goes I would leave it a bit. I weaned Kara at 5 months and have had no problems. She is now on 2 bottles a day, 3 meals and a snack.
5 bottles a day sounds good. As long as he is happy and putting weight on I wouldn't worry. Kara was never a big drinker of her bottles and always put on the weight. She obviously got enough.
Kara weighed 3lb 12oz when born and was weighed last week and was 15lb 14oz so she has come on great. Smaller babies tend to come on very well with their weight.

Hi my daughter sophie was born at 32weeks weighing 2lb 14oz, she is now 5monthe and 11lb 6oz. I have just started her on some baby rice and fruit purees as she was hungry but seemed unable to finish a bottle if i increased it. Shes managing it well but i only make up a teaspoon for her, i also do 5bottles aday at 6oz but she will only really finish 2-3 off. As for sleeping, she cat naps during the day and wakes at night and is also an early riser!!! As you might guess i'm knackered as its not like the other half hears her during the night!!
