Subject : what equipment do you have for feeding?

What do you need equipment wise to start bottle feeding.....im going to try breast when lo is born but if i have problems I have no qualms in trying to switch.....
I know you need the obvious...bottles he he!!
What else...? How many bottles? A large steam sterliser? storage tubs?

How much is a tub of formula and how long does it last?

Thanks xxxx

You need bottles (about 6), dont bother with the ones that hold 4oz as they're a waste of money before you know it your lo will drink more than that so get straight on the 8 or 9oz ones. I use tomee tippee and they're really good. You also need teats (slow flow for newborns) but these usually come with the bottles. As for sterilisers its up to you, I use a cold water steriliser with Milton sterilising tablets and its sooo much easier (IMO) then fiddling about with electric stuff! Lots of mums prefer a steam or a microwave steriliser though so its up to you.
I use SMA gold and its £6.89. I think Cow & gate is about the same, Farleys is cheaper and Aptamil more pricey. But they are all the same really, just lo's tend to take to different types. My formula lasts about a week or so but then I have a greedy baby.

Thanks tiger lily..great advice and ideas for what I may need. Was deffinatley going to BF but after reading all the horror stories i want to be prepared for bottle....the idea of getting OH to do night feeds whilst I have a kip is appealing!! I have a breast pump ready but was told it takes an age to express. xx

bottle i always get about 8
when you make up 24 hours at a time, it good to be able to make them up when you are ready instead of having to weight intill the last one is done.
A steraliser ( i use a microwaze one, all you do is put the bottles in and all the bits, lids, teats ect put small amount of water in the bottom close and put in micowave for a few mins, each steraliser has a difrent time, and thats them done)
A bottle warmer
a bottle brush and teast tweezers (so your hands are never on the steralised teats)
If you are out of the house a lot with the little one, it might also be a good idea to inverst in a therma bag, and milk powder despencer so you are able to make up bottle while you are out with out any hassle all you do is add the poweder to the still warm watter shake and feed.

i Tried SMA with my son but he couldnt drink the stuff he just kept bringing it back up, once i spoke to my mum i found out that all her kids had a bad time with SMA. so i tried him with cow and gate and he was the same it was farleys that he was the best on, so i stuck with that when my daughter came along and will probably do the same with this one, my kids where big eaters and once they were on 9oz bottle i was going through a tin and a half of powder a week, this was with solid foods as well x

for normal first milks, from asda prices are as follows
SMA gold is £6.81 for 900 grams
cow and gate is £6.99 for 900 grams
Farleys is £4.71 for 900 grams (from boots)
Aptamil is £7.93 for 900 grams
Hopp organic milk is £4.57 for 900 grams
