Subject : cv advice please

its looking like i may be out of a job so need to think about what kind of job i need to apply for when i finish my maternity leave in about 8 weeks. has anyone got good suggestions of any online sites that has good examples of CV. I used to have quite a good cv but my computor crashed and haven't been able to retieve it so will be starting afresh. (it needed updating anyway.)
also any advice on should i put on the cv or covering letter that i might be interested in flexible working/ part-time working / job share? i don't want them to think that i'm not a serious contender but at the same time its important to be up front so i'm not wasting their time (or mine.)
how realistic is it to think that employers may consider these requests?

the business got sold to new owners, they're supposed to be obliged to take everyone on but have got rid of all bar 1. they not very forthcoming with letting me know that they have hours/shifts available to me and i obviously can't afford to be in the dark - i need a job to go back to that i will get a decent ammount of money. i can't do anything because they've not said i haven't got a job to go back to and when i've spoken to them they've indicated that i am welcome to go back but without being specific about what they can offer me. in writing i've had nothing.

I would imagine it would be very difficult for them to get rid of you for fear of problems because you are pregnant. If you like your job you could probably keep it if you make the right noises. If you do decide to move to, try Monster jobs on the internet. They have good CV examples. Also, have you thought about using an agency? They would help you with your CV and would also help with flexible working hours. I have run several interviews and I would not be put off by someone who wants flexible working hours, as long as they could demonstrate they were committed to the job. Hope some of this helps!

Hiya

Surely TUPE regulations apply. Have a look at this link:

http://www.cipd.co.uk/subjects/emplaw/tupe/tupe.htm

Also as Jasmin says, I have held plenty of interviews too and have never been put off by someone wanting to work flexi/part time.. Especially as a working mum myself I know that we always work much harder anyway.

Good Luck!

Regards

Carolyn

yes - they are supposed to be obliged to keep everyone on under tupe and they agreed to this but have just managed to get away with making peoples lives difficult enough for them to decide to leave of there own accord. they've ruined the place and its not the same at all so it is like starting a new job so i think most people have decided they might as well start again somewhere where they don't have to tolerate such cr*p!
they've made my life hell and i don't even work there at the mo. i've had missed/late payments, wrong ammounts and even the wrong name on the cheque so i've been in a difficult position. they haven't confirmed my hours so as a part-timer who worked flexible hours they could make me work hours i can't get childcare for or not give me adequate hours each week.
at the moment they are refusing to pay the remainder of my smp (i've only had 32 weeks) they also responded to my asking for my money and asking them to sort it out by saying it was unacceptable and that they didn't like my attitude!
they wrote a letter saying that it was resolved and that it should be an end to the matter, they refered to my going in being unacceptable and said they would discuss that with me in person on my return in august.
i'm definately getting another job!

I just wanted to update this and say that being up front definately worked to my benefit. I applied for 1 job that i was unsure about and was a bit vague and reluctant about my possible hours etc and needless to say my application was unsuccesful! However within days I saw an advert for a job that was a really good opportunity and i was very positive and enthusiastic but on the part where it said further information i said i was willing to be as flexible as possible and while i was really keen about the job I was concerned that I would not be able to get suffiecient childcare. I said i wanted to be as honest as possible as i in no way wished to waste there time. i outlined what childcare i knew i was able to arrange and that i would pursue further options depending on what was required.
the job was P/T daily, monday to friday between 8.30 - 5.30.
I said i could work daily after 3 and that i could arrange childcare for mondays and wednesdays but hadn't as yet been able to arrange any for other days. i also said i was able to work weekends.
as it turned out they offered me monday 9.30 - 6 with the option of a half hour lunch (instead of an hour) so i can get a full 8 hour day. they said they would consider wednesday all day later depending on how it went but at the moment they were aware that i would obviously have to spend out a lot on childcare so they were trying to keep my childcare costs down!
so i also work tues- friday 3- 6 and every 4th saturday. they only really decided in the interview stages that it would be useful to have the person cover a saturday and because i put myself forward for that it was to my advantage. after all the problems i had (am continuing to have) with my old employer its been a blessing to know how accomodating they have been to me.
My hubby gets home for 3 so i only pay for 1 days childcare.
I would really recomend being upfront with what you are able to do but also show willing to be flexible!
