Subject : water broke at 5months

no sign of labour, doctors won#'t give me any info.

Will my baby survive in the womb without the amniotic fluid?

Where are you? That seems all totally weird! If your waters have gone you should be on antibiotics to protect your baby from infections! I don't know about waters going so early! I was 34 weeks when mine went but I was immediately put onto antibiotics to protect bubba and the docs talked me through everything.

Have your waters leaked or actually ruptured. the fact you have no midwife is very strange my friend is in ireland and has a midwife. if you have just leaked a bit it is probably just extra that you dont need but if you have ruptured they should of taken you straight into hospital and iv'd antibiotics into and monitor you for a minimum of a week!
i have been leaking my waters for over a month now, so i know it is scarey.xxx

I have read it being suggested on BLISS website by people in similar circumstances that drinking absolutely loads of water can help you make more waters.

Yes, I read that drinking loads of water can sometimes improve things. I will keep everything crossed for you.

Hi my younger sister isnt due til october, however her waters started to leak at 20 wks, she had her scan and verery thing looked finfe and the leak was dismissed as a discharge.
She continued to leak for about 5 weeks on some occasions large amounts aother just a dribble. Each time she went to hospital they would examine her but as they couldnt see it actually coming from where it should they wouldnt acknowldge it as being her waters. Eventually however they did, and at the scan it showed very little water left. Not enough to allow baby to move - he is now in breach posistion and will more than likely stay that way.
She has been told that due to the waters going so eatly jis lungs are now very week and even though hes still inher and developing they will still remain week.
She has also been told that although she can still feel him moving this will be limited movemnet for example he may strecth out his arm / leg but he wont fully extend it due to no fluid to move in. As their is no fluid the sac becomes tighter and more restirictive. This means he could have a build up of scar tissue which may retrict movemnet when he is born.
In my sisters case they do not know why this has happened, she did think shed miscarried early on and bled a lot, this could be a contributing factor - the doc says they will know more when hes delivered.
Last week at 27 weeks she started to bleed again quite heavily (like a period) she was taken to hospital where she is still with baby still in her, hes doing fine not distressed in any way. The doc seems to think the bleeding is coming from the ende of the placenta, however it does not seem to have casued labour to start so theyre just monitoring her regularly. If she gets and infection or he becomes distressed then theyl do a section.
She has also been told that a section wouldbe better for baby as the contractions could cause him distress with out the waters to cushion him, howvere if she wakes up one night already in labour and its to late to do a scetion then a natural birth it shall be.
Currently his weight is estimated at about 2lb so hes coming on steadily and seems to be a fighter. I shall try and post again soon with any update, however if life gets to hectic and i dont then please feel free toemail me should you wnat any more info haleymh@hotmail.com
