Subject : Do you think of yourself as a young mum?

Im 20, and dont really see myself as a young mum. I seem to class young mums as 16, 17, etc. I know im not old, but i think 19-26 is common to have children these days.

How old are you, and do you think of yourself as a young mum? x

Im 25 and just had my second baby. Had my first when I was 20 and I think of myself as a young mum and I love it! I think it's great being a 'young' mum and wouldn't have it any other way.

It's funny sometimes because I actully look about 17 so when I have my almost 5yr old son with me people do tend to give me funny looks!

hiya,

i am 20 and want to start ttc after my 21st birthday in august, i've always wanted to be a young mum (i think i've been broody since i was 13!) i have a lot of respect for other young couples having babies and especially single mums. i think your 20s is the prime time to have kids. i can't wait to join in and be a young mum too! xx

hi everyone im 26 i dont feel like a young mum (even though i dress fashionably and act young sometimes!) I think thats because we see so many young teenage mums around these days that it just makes me feel old! Didnt mean for that to sound disrespectful to young mums though,i had my first when i was 17 and def felt like a young mum then. becky xx

Hey. I'm 18 and my son is nearly four months. I don't really see myself as a young mum... i do notice my age when my friends are all talking about things theyre doing in college or uni and going out every friday/saturday but mostly i couldn't care less about my age. I think its more about... a kind of maturity in being able to look after a LO or two... X

I'm like whalemummy, dont see myself as "young" but when I consider my friends and what their lives are like (college/uni, going out!) I do think I'm quite young especially as none of my friends have kids yet. I just turned 20 and had my baby at 19. I think its rubbish that more people are having kids in their 20s though ... in fact more people are waiting till their 30s to have children if anything and teenage/young mums are the minority! There seems to be lots of young mums in my area tho as when I go to get my baby weighed everyone is about my age. xxx

i was 18 wen i had my first, almost 20 wen i had my second and now expecting my 3rd at 21.

I did consider myself as a young mum at 18 but i suppose nowadays 21 is quite an average age to have a baby.

im not a mummy yet unfortunately but my self and hubby are TTC and we are both 22, i would definately consider us young parenys because we are young but i think that our maturity, sophistication and our lifestyle definately make me feel much older, being together nearly 8 years makes us feel like we are very old!!! we really andt to have a child to add to our very loving home but all we have so far is our little dog!!!

I'm 21 just now and don't think I am that 'young' a mum. I had my daughter at 17 and I consider that a 'young' age in terms of how different I am now to what I was then. I don't think my parenting skills were affected by my age , I think that is more to do with love and common sense than age. As I've got older though I'd say I'm more confident with my parenting skills, whereas when I was younger I was worried about people judging me, and if I was maybe doing something wrong. Now I've learned first time mothers, no matter what age 16 or 42, worry about the same things. When I have another baby hopefully next year or the year after when I'm a bit ore financially secure, I will be around 22-23 and won't class myse;f as a young mum. It was normal for women years ago to be married and have children by about 21. My mum actually told me that when she went to have my brother she was considered an older mum, and she was only 25!!! It justs shows you how much the times have changed as I would class an older mum more about the lates 30's early 40's mark.

I think of myself as young in age, not in mind.
I became pregnant with my first child at 17 and gave birth at 18. My second was when I was 20 and I'm pregnant again and I wouldn't have it any other way. I cannot think of a better thing to do with my life then bring up happy contented children and my partner feels the same way. He's ten years older than me and has always wanted a large family while we are ''young'' enough to enjoy them.
Like my mum always says ''if your old enough to make a baby, your old enough to be a mum!''

im 19 and class myself as a young mum but only because my friends are going out partying all the time and are just going off to uni in sept, but i really couldn't imagine my life any other way, it just seems so natural to be a mum. i got pregnant with my daughter when i was 18 and had her 2 months before my 19th, shes almost 9 months now and we are currently trying for baby no 2 Happy x

When I was pregnant and when Jamie was younger I always looked at my old school pals partying and going to uni and thought I was missing out a bit. A few years down the line they are all either jobless, dropped out of uni, alcaholics or really depressed. A lot of them now envy me and my little family life, even though the same ones told me I had ruined my life by keeping the baby at such a young age. It justs shows you how the tables turn, you just think your missing out but your not really missing much. We all have our own path to take at the end of the day.

hello im new to this forum, was just being nosey really but ive recognised a few names on here from baby forum (hannah&tegan, tigerlilly, Whalemummy, brandollarz) and im shocked that you are all so young! When i read your posts and replies to things on baby forum i always imagine you to be older perhaps mid 20's +. just goes to show that you are all wise beyond your years and have it really together! Im 21 and never really thought about wether i was a young mum or not, but i suppose i am quite young, fell pg at 20 (by suprise lol).
