Subject : 4 year old waking during night
anybody else have a problem getting a 4 year old to sleep all night my 4 year old daughter wakes up in the middle of the night everynight without fail, she goes to bed around 8pm although i have to lie beside her until she falls asleep, she gets up and comes into my room then gets up around 7.30, she is still tired when she gets up because she whines and cries over the silliest things, i can't get her into bed any earlier as i have a 15 month old who goes down at 7.45.
any suggestions would be gratefully

Hiya, we had a similar problem with our son not quite as bad though!!! what we ended up doing was telling him that if he slept all night like a really good boy he would have a treat at the weekend!! and it worked fantastic he now sleeps through every night like a log!! only wakes if he needs the loo which is lucky because we have a 7 week old son now. I dont know if its any help to you but it worked for us. Good luck xxx

Hi, my four-year-old wakes up as well. For a few months she was in our bed every night and I have a 6 month-old, so it was quite exhausting. When I talked to her about it she just said stuff like, "but I miss you so much!" One time I just told her that I would really prefer it if she didn't come to my bed and ever since then she has been sleeping through the night! Not sure how that worked though!

Has it been happening long? Only asking in case it's a fairly recent occurrence as it could be related to something like starting nursery or something new and it's unsettled her.
With the settling down 1st thing at night, have you tried the withdrawal method they recommend for babies? Start out right next to her for a cpl of nights, then move off the bed and sit on the floor by the bed (yes, I know, that's uncomfy - done it myself b4 lol), then after she has fallen to sleep a cpl nights with you like that, sit or position urself a bit further away from the bed. The idea is to gradually make it to the door and out, so that by the time you manage that, she's basically getting herself to sleep. That might also help in the end for when she gets up in the night - by taking her back each time and doing similar, she might get the idea about getting herself back to sleep again. It will no doubt mean several very disturbed, sleepless night for you and oh but the result will be worth it in the end!
Good luck. xx
