Subject : Another weaning question

Hi
Ive been weaning Jack a while now. Hes been on 5 5-7oz bottles a day and spoon fed brekkie and tea. This weekend i also gave him some fruit puree with his linchtime bottle which he ate and was opening his mouth for more when it was gone. I have been giving him water out of magic cup inbetween.
I read that i should offer water with meals but i give him a bottle then his mush am i doing it wrong?

He has
6am 7oz
930am 5oz plus cow and gate brekkie
1pm 6oz plus fruit puree (3 cubes)
430pm 5oz plus veg puree (5 cubes)
730pm 7oz

We've just gone onto 2 meals but I give his solids inbetween just because of the timings of his bottles.

he has
7am 7-8oz bottle
9am baby rice/ fruity breakfast
11am 7-8oz
3pm 7-8oz
4.30pm 1-2cubes veg puree
7pm 7-8oz

I give him water from a cup with feeds and during day. Also have a bottle of water for him and during hot weather he's been havin a couple oz of that throughout the night.

Only has tiny bit of solids tho still only been doing it bout 3 wks.

Don't think your doing it wrong as everything I've read says they should have their food with bottle. Started like that but the timings were easier to do it like this for us.

well i've only really just started - your a bit ahead i a yet to do puree's... think going to do them next week. can i ask how many weeks Jack is? Fin is 22 weeks and he normally has:

7am 7oz
11.30/12pm 7oz plus c&g breakie mixed with formula
4pm 7oz
6pm 7oz plus half rusk mixed with formula
7.30pm 7oz

but today all went wrong he had:

6am 7oz
9am c&g breakie mixed with formula
11am 7oz
3pm 7oz
6pm 7oz plus half rusk mixed with milk
7.30pm 7oz

so more a less similar to jack... i read to wean you offer bottle then food then bottle to finish then have water as extra if needed... i suppose as they get older and drop milk for food they will need more water or juice.

xxx

I know if you give juice that's only meant to be with meals but's that's only because of tooth decay.

I think you're right in thinking the water with meals is for when they have less milk. I give Gracie water between feeds but not after her meals or bottles. I'm gonna up her to 3 meals a day once I've cooked and mushed the veg I bought! Then she'll prob have less milk, but will be doing something like this....
7.30am 7oz bottle
10.30am 7oz bottle, cereal
2pm 7oz bottle, pureed veg/fruit
5pm 7oz bottle, pureed veg/fruit
7.30pm 7oz bottle

She's 22week today and loves her mush!

didn't want to 'read and run' but i can't be of much help as i'm not really that progressed in the weaning, he has cereal in the morning with a bit of milk to drink, we tried rice in the evening which had worked but he was getting constipated so i stopped and he hasn't missed it... think i'll have to start again soon though but it is sooooo confusing. anyway i'm pretty sure they're meant to get about 500ml of milk a day and if not you need to give them vitamin supplements, as for the juice it is a tooth decay thing but i think probably not quite so bad if heavilly diluted.

Bit different as Sam is bf - he has
7 - bf
9 - Cereal
12 - bf
2 - Puree (6ish cubes)
4 - bf
6 - Puree (6ish cubes)
9 - bf
And then I go to pot and offer him the breast whenever he wakes up - which I am not doing as of tonight!!!!!!

you go kerryg... it's hard to persist in the night as all you want to do is crawl back into bed so its easier to feed...but sounds like he's having plenty in the day. good luck! let us know how you get on tonight xx

Hi, we are on our 3rd week of weaning. Last week holly had baby rice with her afternoon feed but since i gave her carrot yesturday she wont eat the rice! Menace! This week she has had banana for breakfast and loves it!

Our day is like this

5am 6oz
9am 6oz about 2 inches banana mashed with formula
1pm 6oz
5pm 6oz veg mush prob about 2-3 cubes
7pm top up anything from nothing to 4oz

So holly doesnt have that much looking at what your little ones have. I started weaning her as she was watching us opening her mouth and chewing, always eating her fists, waking 2-3 times in the night rather than her usual once. But now im wondering of i should have waited untl she was on more milk... although that said she will never take more than 6oz, and even the 6oz she has over atleast 2 "sittings"
Blimey, its so difficult making these decissions when all you want is to do the best for your baby! argh!

Kerryg- let us know how you get on. How old is sam? Holly is 19 weeks and im sure she could do without her 5am feed and wait until we get up at 7am but she wont settle back to sleep wihtout it and as star11 says its easier to feed and get back to bed for an hour!!

sorry for waffling! x

Hiya

Alfies 20 wks and drinking/eating much the same as everyone else. Our day goes:

6.30/7am- 7oz
9.30/10am- cereal + 7oz
1.30/2am- 7oz
5pm- veg or fruit puree + 7oz
8.30/9pm- 7oz

I give alfie some water when all his milk is finished as milk is meant to be their staple diet for the 1st 6 months. Hv seem to be not that fussed when it comes to giving babies under 6 months water as it is highly unlikely for them to become dehydrated with all the milk they guzzle!!!!

I have been a bit concerned with alfies weight recently- the next person that says to me "cor, hes big....!"

I had him weighed when he was 18 weeks and he was 16lb 14oz! Hes jumped from just under the 50th to just over the 75th centile!!! he is killing my back!

Do you think hes drinking and eating too much?

x

Hes only having 4oz more than Jack but Jack has 3 meals now. He weighed 15lb 11 yesterday and has jumped from 25th to 50th centile (no idea what those things mean really) xx

Suz, don't worry about the centile things. I don't think Alfie's eating too much, just right I'd say and he'd be fine having a third meal when he's ready too. Gracie will be about 16lb odd now but my boys were much heavier at this age!
He looks like a cute healthy little chappy!
Hunibuni - it means out of 100 babies, your baby is the 50th heaviest etc. So Gracie is the 98.6th tallest girl out there for her age!

no i never knew what that all meant!
fin was weighed at 20 weeks - now 23 and he was 16lb 15.5oz - just had look in book and he's between 50th and 75th for his weigh - he's not been measured since week 8!

Just started making up 8oz bottles for fin as draining them, then next week going to introduce some puree would you say to do this at lunch??? has c & g fruity breakie but at the mo has this at 11.30 with bottle then rusks and extra bottle at 6pm, think this is too close as he then has bath at 7 and another bottle at 7.30.
I wish someone could write out a plan for me...
think going to try

7am- bottle (earlier if won't wait)
8.30/9am Fruity breakie
9.30 - NAP usually 2 hours
11.30/12pm - bottle followed by puree
4pm - bottle
5.30pm - rusk mixed with formula (bottle?)
7.30pm - bottle

I go out at about 1 every day till about 5 so easier just to give bottle at 4... what do you think to this plan???
prob won't work but going to give it ago as of Saturday as will have time to make up food! Saying all this when will have time to play???!!!! x

Well yet again Bryn has to be one of the heaviest babies for this month - had him weighed on tuesday and he weighed 20lb 12oz - since putting him on formula hes gone from the 91st centile to above the 98th! I haven't even started weaning him yet!!!

Yuu must be getting nice big muscles Em!

Bren is 19 weeks now and was last weighed at 17 and a half weeks where he was 14.3lbs and 62.5cm long.
He still isn't much of a guzzler in terms of milk as he only has 4.5 to 5 floz per feed, although takes more during growth spurts. I have introduced C&G breakfast at either lunchtime or around 4pm depending on what we are doing. I'm just taking it slowly at the moment since Bren isn't taking loads of milk, although he does enjoy eating the food from the spoon now. x

i think i could win with the biggest bruiser, harry's 23wks, 99th centile and due to be weighed today i think he'll hit 22lb today. we started weaning at 17wks as hv said it might steady his weight gain (which it didnt) as he's putting on about lb a week atm, we moved onto 3meals a day on monday which he's getting on good with, although he no longer likes puree he prefers it thicker-mashed.
his go's:
7.30 - 7oz milk
8.30 - baby cereal
11 - 7oz milk
12 - fruit/veg lunch
3.30 - 8oz milk
5.30 - fruit/veg dinner
7.30 - 9 oz milk
11.30- 6oz milk

Been off for a few days - really tired!!!
I have def dropped the 11pm feed but Sam just screams at 3 - on monday night after 1 hour - I fed him - he woke an hour and half later and I just gave in. Been pretty much the same ever since.
He was weighed on tues - 24 weeks and 16lb 4oz - just on 25th centile.
Spoke to hv about his feeding and I was worried as he used to be on 50th centile. She was really nice - told me not to worry - he was obviously healthy and happy and just carry on as I felt best.
