Subject : Gina Ford routines ??

Hi everyone,

i have posted this on march born babies forum also but was wondering if any experisnced mummies could help ?

I have heard recently lots about Gina Ford and the benifits of her routines although she is very anal the mothers that have used it have said good things.

My lo is a good sleeper and content but loves cuddles and loves to be held and i cant get anything done !! She sleeps well at night but only naps here and there in the day hence thinking about Gina Ford i just wondered if anyone else had any thoughts or have used it maybe ??

So confused (you can probably tell) x

I never followed a routine as strict as Gina Ford and my daughter sleeps well at night and naps during the day (mostly cat naps). I don't have a problem with this and she seems happy. When she was 2 months old, I didn't get anything done, but then I didn't really expect it, after all she was very small and what she wanted was far more important to me than doing housework. She also didn't sleep through until she was about 4 1/2 months old, but then I didn't really expect her to much earlier. I just go with the flow, she has her bedtime and feeding routine, but apart from that I take things day by day, she's a baby after all, not an entry in my filofax.

I'm glad someone has said that because Mia is a good baby and sort of has her own routine she doesn't winge for the sake of it. We have been so lucky!! I just can't switch off to the housework !! How did you get it done ?

S you think just go with it and follow her lead ? alli'm worried about is everyone has said i have to start early as possible but just putting her in her room both me and my partner aren't ready to do (even tho she is a noisy sleeper) let alone cry in her own room !!

Thanks for your help x

Personally I didn't like Gina Ford although I am aware that lots of people swear by it. I bought the Baby Whisperer book and found that really helpful with sensible tips and guidlines although to be honest a lot of it is lo finding they're own pattern.

I tried to get Neve to go from 3 to 4 hour feeds when she was 10 weeks and she refused but the week after she did it on her own!

Mia sounds great - I would ignore the housework

we've never a strict routine, just bedtime and feeding, but even those aren't always stuck to as things crop up. We tend to just see how things go. Rhys has been sleeping 9 - 6.30 since 10 wks he's now 4 1/2 mnths. still in our room. He also has 4 bottles every 4 hours and he pretty much settled into these routines on his own when he was ready.
