I'm 26, I will 27 when my little one arrives, this is my first and wasn't exactly planned, we had an idea that we would start trying when we got to about 30...but was under the impression it would be difficult...I had a whole host of issues and was told they would affect my ability to conceive naturally and my chances of conceiving naturally were less than 25%..but we'd decided we would give it a go when we were ready!! I came off the pill in May with a view having a coil fitted, I waited for my cycle as instructed by my doctor, but it never arrived, I was pregnant within 3 weeks of being off the pill - so, my lo has come along a little earlier than we expected, it was a hell of a shock and we were both quite scared by the idea because even at 26 I still feel sometimes like I am too young, but clearly this one is meant to be and obviously now we're thrilled and I'm just counting down the weeks until the beginning of March next year!!
A lot of people in the thread seem to feel like they have to justify their decision to become a mum at the age they are at, be it young or old, I appreciate that there are a lot of people out there that judge young mums and old mums as well to a degree, but if you can give your child the things that it needs and you will love it unconditionally then I really don't think that age matters....

I was 36 when i had my 1st and 38 when I had my 2nd. I would have leked to have been a bit younger but circumstances dictate these things.

i'm 35 and have a 7 mth old son and a 2 1/2 yr old daughter. i wish i'd started around 27 - 30 as that was the time i was ready but mother nature had other ideas. i'd love to have another 2 but i wouldn't risk trying into my 40s as i'd worry for the babys health. i don't feel being in your 50s and 60s is what nature intended as its rare for women to be able to conceive naturally at that age for a reason. i didn't wait because of my career which i did enjoy, i waited to meet the right man to have a family with and for that i'm so glad.

Hi there, my partner and I were only 16 when I had my daughter and I was still at school but I was a very level headed and ambitious young girl - I was also lucky enough to have the love and support of a great family - not all young mothers have this and it can make a huge difference to the decisions pregnant girls make. I personally decided that I was willing to put my life on hold - thank goodness I did - I am now 28 (my daughter is 12yrs) and happily married to the childhood sweetheart who fathered my daughter. I became a teacher at 24 years (after 5 long years at uni) and had my son during (who is now 4yrs) the same year. We are now patiently waiting on the appearance of baby no.3 and could not be happier at the way our lives have turned out. Although my husband know we have missed out on alot of things throughout our younger years we have gained so much more from having our children young - this is not a general rule however - we have worked very hard and have struggled at times but we were strong enough to cope with all that was thrown at us !!! I think it is not so much to do with age but personality and personal circumstance - some of which cannot be helped - there are some fantastic young mothers out there and some not so good older and 'wiser' ones, however the same can be reversed - many young mums cannot cope for one reason or another and some older ones are first class parents...

I'm 30, had our 1st at 25, 2nd at 28 and now 3rd at 30. My mum had trouble conceiving me and my older brother so we started trying 3 month before our wedding....and no.1 was 11and a half week and growing in my tum at the wedding! We didn't have much practice with the others either...1 and 2 months of trying!
No more for us...saving for a dream holiday when lo is 4years old!

I'm 27 and had my first child at 21. i definatly think its down to the individual although i do wonder what went through the 63year old womens mind while she was pregnant. what would happen to that poor child if she popped her clogs 2, 3, 4 years + down the line- how awful and really sad.

Hi, I'm 40 today (omg I feel old!) and I had my first at 39, my munchkin is nearly 4 months old now. I waited cause I never met the right man to have any children with until now, so in that respect I don't regret waiting.

im 18, 19 in february, and have an 8month old son called Blake. im engaged to my fiance who is 31. our little boy wasnt planned - i was on the pill - but we wouldnt change him (or when he arrived) for the world. i also hate the stereotype of being stupid if you have children younger and leave education, i got 10 A*- B gcse qualifications before i left school and im now intending to go to college p/t to study childcare. i think that as long as you are emotionally and financially able to support a baby then it doesnt matter whether you are 16 or 46!
