Subject : Britax Group 0+ & 1 Car Seat

I was thinking of only buying a Pliko Pramette which goes to lay flat position and rather than use a car seat with it I was thinking of having the above car seat fixed into my car. Does anyone else use this car seat from birth or have any opinions on it?

Hi
we have the Britax group 0 infant car seat, together with an Isofix base so we don't have to faff around with adult seat belt to secure it. It works well (lo is 18 weeks) but we have not tried others so cannot compare. I had C-section so could not lift the car seat or anything for first 6 weeks.

Thanks for that, that's a good point. What if I have a C Section!!

So was yours fixed into the car?

I suppose you could describe it as "fixed" into the car. There are 2 ways to secure infant car seat into the car. One is using adult seat belt - it's a bit fiddly. The other is to use an Isofix base. To use the Isofix base your car must already have the relevant bits to go with it (go to Mothercare or Halford they can look at your car and tell you). The Isofix base once fitted can just stay in the car - it's also easy to remove it so you can have adult passenger. The infant car seat clips in and out of the Isofix base so you can take it out together with your baby in it - handy if baby is asleep to not have to wake him up.

If you don't want to use the Isofix base and just use the adult seat belt to keep the infant car seat secured - I suppose it would work. You have to take baby into the car and then strap him into his car seat. That's ok when baby is small and light. When he's bigger and heavier, that could be hard work.

The other thing to think about is whether you have 3 or 5 door car. The infant car seat must face backwards and cannot be used in the front if the front passenger seat has an airbag fitted (baby could be killed if airbag inflates even if infant car seat is facing backwards in the front seat) so if you have a 3 door car, it could be tricky carrying baby into the back and then strapping him in.

I suggest you go to Mothercare and let them show you how to fit an infant car seat and then you can see if it will work for you. I also stood in a Tesco car park and watched other parents to see what they do.

Good luck.

Thankyou for help with this, I think I will pop along to Mothercare as you said and discuss my options.

I have the Britax First Class Si car seat, as I don't like infant car seats and this one last up to max. 4 years, so good value for money. Mine was on offer in my local baby shop, £99 instead of £129! So it was about the same price as lots of infant seats too.

I love it! My baby is 2 months old and I've had to take the newborn cushion out already as he's a big boy, and I reckoin I'd be struggling by now with an infant seat. He looks sooo comfy and snug in it too - I highly recommend!

Get it checked in your car first though, as you need long seatbelts for it while it's rear facing.

Thank you Jazzycat, that's just what I wanted to hear. I will get it checked out. I reckon I'm having a big baby and therefore don't think the usual carry around car seats would last me that long.
