I think it really depends on your circumstances (how your pregnancy has progressed, if you've had probs eg high bp etc) as well as where you are as we have all found comparing with each other that different hospitals operate differently even in the same city!
I have my prolonged pregnancy appt booked 10 days past my due date as well, which is standard at my hospital (in London). They will offer me my first sweep then (Ive had a good pregnancy with no probs).
Some of the other girls however have been offered earlier sweeps. If this is something you would really like then it might be worth contacting them tomorrow to see if something can be done any earlier.

Hi Preciousbaba - Firstly welcome to the forum!! We're all great in here even if I do say so myself!!
I'm also due today and also a 1st time mummy and my midwife hasn't mentioned anything to me yet about a sweep as yet.
I thought that 10 days over meant that you were due to be induced, ladies of the forum am I making this up?
Do you have a number of your midwife or a different one to call and just "enquire"??
Welcome once again.
TetburyChick xx

Sorry how rude of me! WELCOME
and yes, we are all great in here
With my hospital, they said they would insist on inducing me 14 days past my due date as they wont let me go any longer. First sweep is offered 10 days after DD. Im not sure what would happen if I insisted on having anything earlier as Im one of those trying to avoid them interfering if possible.
But as all our experiences differ depending on where we are / how we have progressed, it would just be worthwhile calling them up and asking. I think generally as long as you reach 40wks they cant really refuse a sweep can they??
xx

aww thanks ladies for giving me your input so quickly its funny how just hearing someone say "its ok its normal" can make you feel better...its like you only pick up on the people who have either had their babies early or seem to be being offered things earlier..i'm due to see the mw on weds so hopefully i can get some information then..and sim your probably right about having people interfere..who really wants people prodding about!!again thank you xxx

Hi there..welcome to the forum. I've not long been a member myself and all the girls on here have made me feel really welcome already.
My due date is tomorrow, and I'm back at the mw on Wednesday if no baby by then. She said that it will be a normal mw appointment but they would make arrangements to come out to my house and do a sweep, but I have no idea when that will be. She also said that at my hospital (Durham), they will take you in for induction at 40+1. So like Sim said, everywhere has completely different policies!
I have had a completely normal pregnancy, I've only visited the hospital twice for each of my scans, never seen a consultant at all. And I have no idea what to expect when this labour kicks in!!!!!
Anyway, good luck and hope things start to happen soon for you.

Yay...someone from my neck of the woods!! Are you having the baby at RVI?
I'm from Newcastle but moved to Chester-le-Street a year and a half ago in with o/h. So thats why I'm at Durham hospital. Think all the hospitals do things differently tho, as a friend lives in Cramlington, due on same day as me and her mw is completely different to mine!!
Do you know what you are having?? We're having a girl, well as far as the 20 week scan said anyway!

Hi and welcome,
The girls have already answered but felt like saying hi! My hospital induces at 10 days and seems to offer sweeps on a casual basis at regular check up midwife appointments as long as you're over 40 weeks.
Ive started to get paranoid about the baby getting big, just seems to have suddenly got LARGE, its def got long legs and big feet and dont want it to start struggling for space, fluid etc. I know its just the usual pregnancy paranoia but thought baby would have been here by now, serves me right!

Hey, small world it is!
Sim, I live not far from Lumley Castle but I've only been there once for dinner. It's a nice place.
Preciousbaba, I'm sure Durham and RVI will both be as good as each other. I was gonna opt for RVI (being on my side of the water!!) until my o/h pointed out that he wasn't sitting in a traffic jam on the A1 if things start to happen during rush hour!! Ha ha! So Durham it is for me!
I have also had the vision of having to buy blue clothes, if anyone is the exception to the rule it is normally me!!
Keep me updated how you're doing too, hopefully not long for either of us.
