Subject : all FF babies - and for those on hungry baby milk -important
I've been feeding my boy 5oz every 4 hours which was perfect having moved to hungry baby milk (stage 2) which really agreed with him. he is 7 weeks old.
He has been under the weather - sickness and loose nappies, went to get checked at the hospital and they were shocked he was on this 2nd stage milk saying he really shouldn't be on the shelves as its really bad for babies under 4 months (even though it says from birth on the tin!)
They thought it was the milk causing havoc with his gut as he was well and bright and didn't appear unwell.
When he feeds normally he has between 30-35oz in a 24 hour perios, the doctor says at this age he should only be having 18-20oz in 24hrs at this age and told me to go back to stage one milk!
I came away feeling like it was my fault overfeeding him! but he's gone to taking 1-2oz every 4 hours!!!!!!! worried he will now be loosing weight! :(

oh?? niamh will be 6 weeks on tuesday and has been having hungry milk for about 4 days now. it seems to be working nicely as she was going every 2 hours before. she now goes 3.5/4 hours. i wouldnt worry too much hun, you know yourself whether your baby is happy and satisfied with their feeds. i think people just like to scare us.

Well im buggered then, as Ollie has approx 35oz in 24hours!! He takes 7oz of aptimil 1 every 4 hours, last feed at 10pm, then sleeps through till 6 when he starts over again. He is 7 weeks tomorrow.
I know its hard not to worry, but i would carry on doing as you have been if baby needs that milk. I know doctors are highly qualified, but if your LO seems happy to take this milk and is requiring more than stage 1 surely thats better for him?? How long have you been giving it to him? Is there a pattern of ill health and using the milk? Have you tried using stage 1 milk, but upping his oz to say 6 or 7??
My LO was wanting more than 5oz and so has been having 7 for the past 2 weeks. I havent used hungry baby though as i didnt want to keep chopping and changing the milk. I think if he wants more than 5 you could try giving more of stage 1 and see what happens if your worried about giving him the hungry baby?x

Leo is 5 weeks and polished off 7ozs earlier but then might only take 4oz at next feed......how can doctor say what a baby should or shouldnt be having when some babies at 7 weeks are only as big as some others that are newborns.....surely a 14lb baby will need more than a 9lb baby.....?
As others have said 'mother instinct' and what suits your baby....and if it wasnt meant to be on the shelf....it wouldnt be....baby products are so heavily monitored......its one of the only things that cant be put on offer so it doesnt encourage mothers to swap milks constantly or not BF......

He was doing really well on hungry baby, going 4 hours to the minute between feeds and regularly doing poos!
had another bad day, just as i thought he was better this morning, he has taken only 6-7oz in the last 12 hours, been sick and 2 loose nappies.
Its really frustrating as now he has zero appetite and hasn't done since wednesday! but the doctors aren't worried because he is happy and alert!!
health visitor comes tomorrow, see what she says....

Ayda's been on hungry baby milk from about 3 weeks old as stage 1 wouldnt satisfy her for long, she seems ok on it, depending on day to day sometimes she has a hungry day and wants loads and other days she dont finish her bottles! also my son was on hungry baby from 2 weeks and he was fine!

Charlie has been on Aptimil stage 2 milk since about 3 weeks old and is absolutely fine. My first son started on it around the same time and continued on it until he went on to cows milk.
I wouldn't worry too much about it. They wouldn't be able to sell it and market it from birth if it wasn't suitable!

the health visitor came. he's lost 60grams in 4 days which she says is ok!! He had thrown up 3 times and she came up with giving him 3oz of water with 1 scoop in it and see if he still threw up. Got 1 oz into the bottle and then he threw up 2 foot across the kitchen :( that made it 4 times in 24 hour.
He then screamed with hunger as he knew the milk was practically water so i gave him 1 oz of full strength and he down it and screamed for more, which he then refused!! asleep now!!
There is a history of pyloric stenosis which they are aware of but becuse he's not sick with every feed they are dismissing it!
I'm so distraught now.....don't know what to do, my mum says I should demand more help as it has been 6 days now, but like my OH says, what do you expect them to do??

Have they done tests foe pyloric stenosis ? If not I would go to my GP and demand to be refered to a paediatrician to check and state that he is sick nearly every feed.
You could also try SMA stay down milk I've heard that its good maybe ask in bottlefeeding forum about it as I've not actually used it xxx
