Subject : Fed up with Maternity dresses!
Was so excited this morning as a couple of parcels turned up for me today with dresses in. Although after opening them and trying them all on feel really fed up now.
Every year we have a very formal, posh ladies night ball to go to and every year I buy a new beautiful dress to wear, but this year I am really struggling, the first problem being is that it obviously has to be maternity, the second problem being is that I normally have to buy petite as I am only 4ft 9".
Anyway after much searching to not much avail to find a full length petite maternity dress thought that I would probably have to end up getting a shorter dress this yaer as just couldn't find anything suitable in full length that wasn't way beyond my budget. But it seems they are either just so super short and really not suitable, so I think I am now going to have to do some alterations to a dress that has come through from Asos today. It is a maxi dress and really just very plain black, but It meets the criteria of being full length (and then some) but I am worried that it is not formal enough. Hubby thinks it will be fine providing that I turn it up quite a bit and also put in a small panel to cover up my cleveage, otherwise he reckons all the men will choke on their food as in his words, "i will be a pair of boobs on legs" Great!!
Did also get another dress that looks really quite pretty on but is just far too short and I know it will be frowned upon at the ball, but again hubby is saying, dont worry about it your pregnant and they will just have to take you as you come, but I really dont want to be the talk of the ball, for all the wrong reasons!!
Anyway the ball is exactly in two weeks time so just wondered what you all thought. Here are the dresses and I will try and get the long one turned up and altered over the next few days and post some pictures of me to see what you all think. Such a pain in the butt being short.
You can get better views of these dresses by going onto asos and looking at them on the catwalk view, not that I look anything like the model. As she is loevly tall and blonde, me short, dumpy and brunette.

Thanks for listening to the moan.

Their both gorgeous dresses. Id have the long one altered to the length you want and with a nice sparkly necklace and earrings it will look fab.

I'm with niki think the long one is classier looking and some nice sparkle would make it really lovely too, glam up your hair too??? I htink it looks 'formally' enough

I agree with the others that if you could alter the length the longer one looks more "formal". It's so hard to get outfits for occasions when pregnant

I agree with the others and think the long one is lovely. Just add some glam accessories and away you go. xxx

ok girls, thanks for you opinions, I think that I had kind of made my mind up on the long one was just being lazy and trying to get out of having to alter it. Will have a go at starting it tomorrow, so as so as I have done will post a picture of it on here.

HI Leigh-Anne - I was going to order the lace one for my xmas party but I have decided not to go now! (And I am 5ft 8 so thought it would be slightly inappropriate)...
There's another really nice dress in the maternity section on Asos - it's full length and navy blue, I really liked it, but alas no party for me this year! x

Hi Leigh-Anne
I feel your pain - I have a christening to go to on 20th December (I'm the very proud Godmother too, so have to look the part), and then a wedding on 23rd January and another one on 30th January, and have *no idea* what to wear.....
But on your dilemma - I too really like the long black one - it will look great with a big chunky bobby dazzler of a necklace, and with nice make-up and hair, you'll be the envy of everyone there! You're also likely to feel less self conscious than if you "dared" to go with the short dress (which will still be a fab one to hang on to for any less formal Christmas / New Year shenanigans).
Good luck, hope you have an absolute blast....despite the lack of vino.....sob!

I really like the longer one - like everyone says, with some kickass jewellery it will be lovely! I've found quite a few decent dresses on Asos actually - wore a nice purple one to DH's rugby dinner a few weeks back, hoping to get some mileage out of it over the Xmas period too, but might have to treat myself to another one as well. I have the opposite problem to you, being 5'10" full length dresses never actually are, and knee length ones sometimes end up obscenely short, not to mention that for some reason a lot of maternity stuff doesnt seem to take my frankly massive boobs into consideration either! Ah, the many faceted joys of pregnancy eh?! xx

Girls,
You are just all so fab with your replies, just knew I should have asked you first rather than hubby!
I have def decided i'm going to wear the long one to the ball, albeit with some alterations, going to start that tonight!
But I am going to also keep the lace one as we also have another function to go to on the 12th Dec which is far less formal and then I can also wear it to a 50th Birthday bash we have on the 19th Dec. At least then I can choose between the two for the two nights out in December.
Jojo- I did also order the blue one, but it really did nothing for me I'm afraid, maybe if I looked like the model then it would have looked fine. I think I am just too short!
Kpepper- I know how awful no wine over Christmas, and I am so going to miss out big time on our ball, as it is aimed at the ladies all night the champers flows constantly, I just hate to turn champagne down. As for my hair got my appointment booked in with the hairdresser already will just have to check out the jewellery situation now.
Lulee- Hee hee you are so funny, maybe you can have the excessive amount of fabric I will be cutting off my dress to add to yours. I swear I wish I was just average size with average size boobs too. At times I just look like a pair of boobs on legs, and getting as wide as I am tall.

How short is it hon? I have really long legs so don't want to look like a pregnant hussy! xx

Ok Jojo, have just taken a very quick photo of me in the dress. It comes just on my knees but remember I am exceptionally short at 4ft 10".
I made sure I cut my feet off as have terrible sock marks, LOL!
Hope you still like it after seeing it on me, it really is a very pretty dress.

I know I am late but fully agree with the girls and your choice of the long one - You will be the belle of the ball!
Im uber jealous of all the partys everyone currently has over the xmas period, my festivities are rather quiet this year - would love an excuse to dress up!
La-La - make sre you upload a pciture of you before you go to the ball, would love to see it.
