Subject : Never thought I would be concerned about this...!!!

Hi girls,

I am 18+2 now and am still a couple of pounds below my prepregnancy weight. Apparently I should have gained 10-13lbs by now... I had a scan yesterday which was amazing Happy and showed bean measuring on the high side of average, so I'm not too worried but just wondered if anyone else had experienced this?!

Thanks!!!

xxx

Hi Hun

I am 19 weeks today and only put on about 4 or 5 pounds!! I thought it varied person to person.

I am sure the MW would tell you if there is a problem. I have my 20 week scan soon so I expect they'll soon tell me if I'm not gaining enough,

If baby is doing well I am sure thats the main thing

xx

To be honest they don't seem to monitor weight anymore. They made a note of my weight and BMI at my booking in appointment, when I was 5 weeks and I have not been weighed since, I'm now 35 weeks!

I think weight is a very personal matter and as long as you are eating enough of the right foods, then you shouldn't worry. It also depends on your weight beforehand too and I would only be concerned if you didn't weigh a lot to start with.

Like you I thought my weight would rocket but after 35 weeks, I have only put on 12-14lbs! My advice is just eat sensibly and try not to worry xx

I'm 24+4 and I'm also still slightly below my pre preg weight. I only put 7lb on with my ds though so not worrying about it as long as you're eating healthily, everybody is different so it is only a rough guide x

Thanks for that girls!

Becci, can't believe you only put on 7lbs with your son, you must've been back to your prepregnancy weight straight after the birth? Guess it must be to do with metabolism maybe?!

Weight is a strange thing. I put on around 2 stone in total with my first. The weird thing was that when i had given birth and come home, i was a pound heavier than i had been before i went into labour??? Didnt understand that, but it did start going down about 1-2 pounds per day after that.

With my second i lost nearly a stone around 22 weeks due to stress and even though my bump was much bigger than the first baby, i never really caught up again.

Im not really worried this time about it. As long as i dont feel like im ballooning, im not too worried

as long as your baby is measuring well, your weight shouldnt be a problem, i was concerned as i have put on around 2 stone (mainly boobs and bump thankfully) i asked the midwife and she said they dont weigh after booking in as its not neccessary as long as you are healthy and baby is growing well, there is no "you should have gained this" as everyone carries differently and it varies greatly x

I am 27+3 and have only put on 2lbs so far. I was overweight before getting pregnant though so am not worried, the baby is clearly getting everything it needs and is measuring fine on all my scans.
If you are concerned mention it to your midwife but I am sure it is not a problem as long as you are eating properly and not consciously trying to lose weight and baby is measuring fine!
I think the average weight gains are just a guide for people, not neccessarily accurate for everyone and I guess they are to stop people gaining too much too fast if they know what to aim for!

Hon I got to 20 weeks and still weighed 2 pound under. I didn't get to my prepregnancy weight until I was 22 weeks. I'm now 34 weeks and have put on about a stone and a half roughly.
Dont' worry about it as long as you are eating properly.xxx

Im 23 weeks and only put on 4 pounds, so weighing 7 pounds under the weight i should of gained (on average) saying that my lil man is measuring a month small, which i guess explains things, plus i live in a top floor flat so have to walk 3 flights of stairs numerous times a day ARGH
