Subject : Why is it......
...if your lo is a fussy eater they eat EVERYTHING offered to them at nursery!
Seriously, according to nursery staff Charlotte does not have a problem with eating her meals at all and has an empty plate/bowl.
Very strange

My dd is always been a fussy eater. At home she never clears her plate and we never put a lot on her plate to start with. She's exactly the same at my mum and dads yet if she has a pudding she always clears her bowl and wants more (funny that!!). Yet if we go out for a meal she always clears her plate and some kids meals are well more than twice the size of what we offer her. She's been known on ocassions to sit there for over an hour finishing every single pea off her plate individually - she's never done this at home. Last night she must have eaten about 5 forkfuls of pasta before declaring she was full up!
It could be that because Charlotte can see her friends eating up that she is copying and doing the same too?? I know my lo behaves differently with a group of children her own age. At least food isn't an issue at nursery which must help anyway - hope she's settled in a bit more now too. xx

Chloe's similar!!! She's a pretty good eater at home but fussy about some things like fruit and veg and wary of new things but at nursery she eats fruit for snack, salad with meals, veg etc - turned up yesterday and she is there chomping on peppers!! she also drinks better there. like donk said i think there is an element of copying other kids there and thinking well if they can i will!!! chloe grabbed one of the older kids cups the other week and downed their drink cos she wanted to copy the older kids who have plastic glasses to drink from and not beakers!!
just shows she can do it!!

At least it's normal then. I read her diary and expect to see "refused meal" and it says "ate all"!!!
She still cries (a lot) when dropping her off but she soon calms down and has a fun day and is making new friends.

Ollie is the same - wont touch meat at home but will eat everything put in front of him at nursery. We've even tried telling him its nursery sausages etc but he wont have any of it.
While we were away we went out for a meal and he ate all of his meal (huge kids portion!) and half of my ham!
It is copying - we went for a meal today with OHs cousins and their kids, one of whom is 9 months older than Ollie and Ol ate everything because his mate was eating everything....

Yep, apparently George wolfs sandwiches at nursery (even Marmite ones - UUUURRGGGGHHH!) but I try offering them here and they just get launched across the room!! LOL!!!

I offered her fish pie & baked beans for tea as she had that at nursery a couple of weeks back and apparently wolfed it down. 2 (small) mouthfuls of mine were enough today! I give up.

There is a lot of research about how toddlers eat better when eating the same as and with other ones their own age or similar as well as eating better when offered the same as adults and eating with them. It is all about copying others and not wanting to be the odd one out!
Max is just the same - AND MUMMYSTEPHE - since being ill last Christmas max will not eat meat but he still gets it on his plate when we are having it and this week he finally ATE A SUASAGE rather than launching it!!! YAY!

This is one reason why Charlotte went to nursery, and it seems to be working if she eats there.
She is also going thru a funny phase with meat.
When I picked her up on Friday she was walking with the other toddlers from another room and I got a lump in my throat for some reason. It just seemed so cute seeing her with little friends.
