I am going to be getting it. After much deliberation I finally decided that the known risks of swine flu are worse. My hubby said that if I didbn't get it then I wasn't allowed to go out anywhere either!
It's a personal choice at the end of the day hun, no right or wrong answer xx

hey Kelly,
I will be getting jab as well. I agree with Happyflump that the risks of swine flu are (to me) worse than getting the jab. Although as everyone has said, it is a very personal choice and no-one can decide for you.
Here is the link to the post on pregnancy, it helped me to make up my mind:

Take care

I actually asked my midwife about the vaccine last week,
any way our conversation lead to me asking her
"if she would have it while pregnant?"
and she basically turned round and said
"no, not if I was fit and healthy, there isnt enough research in to the damage it could have on a baby or a placenta for my liking"
And so I think I would have to weigh up the pro's/con's ie the amount of swine flu victims in my area, the gestation I was at in pregnancy.
Also the known risks to my baby, me at the time that are know by the docs etc.
taking time in talking to your midwife, doc before you make a decision is very sensible hunnie.
I dont think anyone here is right or wrong, it really depends on then person etc

hey ladybird,
I have just read the links Q&A page, it makes interesting reading.
From that informatuion it does sway my decision alot BUT I am ever the causious one and still am so undecided. I should hear in the next two weeks if my surgery wants me to have the vacc, so until that day comes I really dont know.
Hubby does want me to have it whereas my mum, gran, grandma etc say no dont have it fro the info they have had!( my sister works for the ambulance service so has had so many meetings about swine flu....information I certainly do not want to hear lol!!)
Oh the delimma!

I know, its such a big decision to make, the major factor in my mine is because i get a busy train to work every day and I am in constant contact with other people. I really struggled to make the decision and although i have said i am getting it, i will be waiting to hear whats happening at my doctor's surgery - not chasing it up. Apparently there are only 500 doses being sent to each GP practice so I might not even get the opportunity to get the jab.
I just can't believe what a balls up has been made about the information that has been provided to those at risk and how disorganised everything seems.
There is going to be a webchat on BE in the next couple of weeks with David Salisbury who is the government spokesperson for swine flu - although i am not sure how impartial that webchat will be!

Hi i first decided that i wasnt having it as i am usually a very fit and well person but i have now decided to have it gone on the research i have done and the stastics that have came out. What some people need to realise is the press is going to put all the shitty stories in the paper and not underline any facts that should be and i think thats where the whole confusion has been. It is everyones choice whether right or wrong nobody would know but the reason i have chose is -
I have a baby girl of 2 1/2 at home and from the ages of 2-10 the amount of swine flu cases is pretty high because of there immune systems being quite low and i would never want to pass on anything to her or even more morbid if i gave birth to this girlie and then died from swine flu complications ( complications are alot higher if you have to have surgery) my girls would be left with no mommy at all!!!
As many have said this vaccine is not 100% tested but how can it be? babies have been born with no defects from mothers that have had the vaccine and none so far have been born with any affects from it so for me thats enough conlusion for me to have it.
I also work in a hospital and am quite aware of people around me but even if you dont use public transport or work you could go to the super market and get it everyone has to go out of the house.
Anyway i am not preaching to anyone as i know how difficult the decision is and its taken me a long time so go with what you decide and try not to let anyone make your mind up for you other thatn proper stastics and facts xx

Hi there,
We've come to the decision to have it after much deliberation.
Although in saying that we are waiting and not pushing for it to see if there are any bad cases come through - fingers crossed there are none.
We came to the decision mainly because of the complications that can occur. We also found that the vaccine is a 'killed' vaccine which means the virus is dead and not alive. Many 'killed' vaccines are ok for pregnancy but 'live' vaccines are not recommeded. Also the normal flu vaccine can be given in pregnancy - surely there's not that much difference?
It is definately a personal choice and while I've chosen to have it I am worried it will do something to peanut...

Like Peanut Bradley we've decided that I should have it.
Hubby and I have thought long and hard about it and done lots of research and feel like its the lesser of two evils in this scenario. Such a personal choice though and I still haven't heard from the doctors yet anyway....

Ive not really decided. I had decided that no, i wouldnt get it, but doing some more research, im swaying more to having it.
I heard as well that only 500 doses are being sent out initially, and ive not heard anything from my docs. In a way i hope that bu the time they contact me i will be much later on and basically have the decision made for me. My next prob is whether or not to let my son get it. Hes thought to have asthma although its not been confirmed. I dont know what to do about him, but again, maybe by the time it comes to it i will have more information one way or another

I have decided to get it too, if it is offered to me.
Although I don't have any underlying health conditions I travel to work in London on the train and bus every day, and am always jammed in next to people coughing and spluttering all over me...yak.
Also, going soley on the facts so far - I KNOW pregnant women are more likely to get swine flu and more likely to develop complications from it. I do not KNOW whether the vaccine is harmful (although having spoken to a couple of Dr friends I have been assured that it will not be).
My MW has been told she can't advise me on it either way - I'm not sure whether that is just the policy in my hospital or more generally across the NHS. My GP said he was undecided on whether he would offer it to me or not - so I may not even get the chance to make the decision for myself, which is frustrating!
I think my decision would be different it I was earlier on in pregnancy though - I would not risk getting the jab in the first trimester.
These are just my thoughts though - I would not try to convince anyone either way as it's not my place!
Good luck making your decision!
xx

As far as i know yes. Ive been advised to get my wee one the normal flu jag as if you have 2 inhalers, which he does at the moment, he should get that as well. Im doubtful whether to get him that either at the moment. Hes only 3!!!
I think, (and no one take my opinion as gospel coz im not medically trained), the common underlying health issue and complication is newmonia (dont know how to spell so will write as it sounds!). This is obviously a chest type thing and can be complicated by asthma.

I have decided not to get it. My only reason is I don't work and have very little contact with people. If I worked in an office or used public transport to go to work every day then I would think twice but as it is I think my risk of catching swine flu is minimal so I would rather not take the risk of the jab when I don't know enough about it.
I read the webchat on that link but I must be a suspicious person, I find it really hard to trust someone who is employed by the government to tell us it is safe!

i had mine done yesterday, think it was more important for me as work in hospital as well. just got a sore arm now.
they say it gives you 98% cover from swine flu and with all the problems we have had with baby already didn't want to add catching this as another one

Im with you Miss I, i dont work in a big office or use public transport and since im pretty healthy normally and dont have the seasonal jag, im more inclined to not get it.
I think what is anoying me is the fact that the advice is so varied. Why is it that they have said that hospital workers and pregnant women are the high risk groups and are being offered it first, yet i dont really know of any pregnant women who have been offered it purely coz they are pregnant??
Im i wrong?
