Subject : Can waters leak sporadically?

Morning ladies

I am just curious as to whether waters can leak and then stop and then leak and then stop?

I had a shower last night after a very lovely firework display was all dried off and sat talking to hubby who was having a shower when i felt a (small) gush. I pulled a face as it was uncontrollable (not like weeing) hubby asked whats wrong I said nothing but when I stood up there was a pool of clear liquid on the towel i'd put on the toilet seat to stop my bum going cold LOL! there was no wee smell to it, it smelt like body flid though so wasnt shower water.

I put a sanitary towel in and it happened again (although less thia time) accompanied by very bad period pains that went down my legs, then nothing more bar being damp all night (sorry TMI I know!)

I now have slight back ache and unseniable urge to go to loo, but its not something I would think about normally as it doesnt really hurt. So is this my waters or me being neurotic? i'd got used to fact baby very likely to be late and had accepted it now im confused Confused

Fingers crossed this is it! Carly had something that she was told wasn't waters - they can apparantly test for amniotic fluid. Worth ringing your maternity unit or mw, there still may be a long way to go but it would be nice to know!

I cant imagine id produce a pool like that if it was discharge but you never know LOL!

I will ring the unit later, I am meeting my dad at lunch and without something definate I cant really cancel as he will get confused and stressed. Fair enough if I was soaked through etc as I could tell him for definate his grandson was coming but I just dont think thats the case and I cant expose him to stress without a guarantee really!

Its just if it was my waters would they not still be pouring Confused

It would be lovely if this was it girls but I dont think it is, my little man likes to mess with his mummy LOL!

Its possible to be discharge Carly's gushed and I wouldnt of expected hers to be discharge either! I think the fact that yes you could have labour signs but they can stop at anytime is really confusing, im hoping when we have another one i'll feel like I have a clue whats going on as right now feel really confused|!

Sorry just gc from due/born in oct. This happened to me and i didn't do anything about it till it happened the 3rd time about 36 hours after it did it the first time. I was told to go to the hospital and be examined and they said it was my waters and they said that they went the first time it happened so by the time i was examined i had already gone over the time limit they go by to induce me. I had to go back first thing the following morning to be induced as it was 2 in the morning when i was in the hospital.

It wasn't anything major but because i left it so long from when it first happened when my son was born he had an infection and needed 5 days of antibiotics so please ring as soon as you can so they can examine you.

i had even less leaking than that, it was about an eggcup full both times and when it happened the 3rd time i decided to do something about it. just don't leave it more than 24 hours as thats when the chance of infection is higher.

Have a nice luch and ring as soon as you get back please. Alfie is absolutly fine now but we ended up having to stay in hospital for a week because he needed the antibiotics and it wasn't nice at all as we just wanted to get home and be with his daddy. I know how horrible this was and wouldn't like this to happen to you.

No and I really want to bring him home asap! I will ring this afternoon as my main priority at end of the day is Dylan, but if I can not confuse my dad and still get checked put this afternoon I will do that!

Thank you Charlene I really appreciate it, as does the little wriggler who's currently playing knock knock on my pubic bone LOL!

OOhh enjoy your lunch Em, youre braver than I am going out for lunch with all these signs but its like you say - it is really confusing and you cant not do things 'just in case this is it' when chances are it might not be - of course one of these times it will be the big IT. I hope baby holds on to enjoy your lunch with your Dad at least

My friend says I ignore symptoms that much ill ring her in a panic with his head poking out one day LOL! she works in scbu and has been to lots of births she was telling me yesterday about a lady fully dilated scoffing jaffa cakes before she pushed LOL!

Deb if anything comes of it (doubtful) me or hubby will text you, but im really not hopeful, think baby Dylan is a tease and likes to mess with his mummy :)

I just feel a bit sick and have on off period pain but nothing I wouldnt expect anyway with a disturbed night bar needing loo lots! Its like most days bar yesterday when he was quite quiet (for him) and I had no symptoms pain etc all day (well bar the leaking last night!) was good so hes making me pay now LOL!

I thought I would update you all, sorry its late but thank you yesterday for all your advice.

I had a mare of a day, but me and hubby went to the hospital yesterday afternoon/evening to get me checked out. She couldnt really tell me what the leak had been but that my waters werent leaking now and so she wasnt concerned, she took a few swabs to confirm etc also.

I am so pleased I got checked out, hubby has never heard Dylans heart beat bar when he lies with his head on my belly so we sat there for 25 mins listening to our son create an apparantly perfect heart trace and got told how healthy and happy he seemed Happy the testing wasnt comfy but the whole experience was good practice and she told me I had done the right thing going in.

Im so happy hes still so healthy my midwife appointments are so rushed sometimes I feel a bit neglected and it was lovely to just lie there and listen to him beat and wriggle away. 3 weeks max till I see him for real and he will be worth every minute Happy

Thanks for all your advice girls

HI Em,

I feel terribly guilty for not coming on here yesterday now!!! Sounds exactly what I had! Once I called hospital they wanted to check it out asap.

I was told its a kind of watery discharge??!?!??! I am still getting it - you may find you will too. I am constantly wearing panty liners now as it happens quite often, especially when i make a big movement - like getting out of bed or getting up off the sofa!

You sound like me..... I am sooo glad I went to the hospital as I felt I got a proper checking over unlike the 10 minute rush with MW.

How you feeling today??

Glad all is well with you girls!!
How lovely too Em that your hubby got a look in! Made me realise I take it for granted that my hubby has been around every time our mw has come to check on me. Its such a special thing for them to be involved with! and it makes it even more real for them too.
