Subject : Help- why have i dried up?

Hi ladies,

Can anyone advise. My DS is 5 weeks old and until this week have been exclusively BF and expressing and fressing for special occasions coming up. Last week i was expressing 2 oz after the night feed from the boob he didnt use. Sometimes i would get 3oz. Now I can only seem to get 1/2 to 1 and 1/2 oz. What has happen why am i going backwards. DS weight was checked this week and weight gain is good so know he is getting what he needs just seems I cant get the extra i was!
Really dont want to give formula , any advice appreciated xx

Sorry bit busy doing to chores tonight but wanted to reassure you all is not lost.

You are not going backwards and your milk supply just starts to settle at around 6 weeks. You over produce in the first few weeks until your body knows what you need. Your body is a clever thing and knows the difference between expressing and baby feeding!

Also babies have a growth spurt at 5-6 weeks so he may well be drinking more and leaving less for you to express. Try expressing in the morning...you will definately get more. Also check that you are eating/drinking/resting enough. If you're not sure spend a couple of days in eating/drinking and resting well and feeding baby totally on demand you will soon see an improvement on your supply xxx

Thanks ladies,

Think i may have been the master of my own downfall here. I did begin to watch what i was eating. Was still getting the extra calories just in good food as opposed to junk. Was also having a few stress issues with my brother which i was really upset abt. Supply improved with in 24 hours of breaking out the chocolate lol and am taking a break from expressing this week and will reintroduce slowly next. thanks x
