Subject : VERY WORRIED, ANY ADVISE GREATLY APPRECIATED
Hi everyone,
I recently found out that i am pregnant, i had an ultrasound last monday (is now thursday), and had some scary news. I read my results before going into the Dr and it said that i am 7 weeks, but that i have a cyst on my left ovary that is just over 3cm, and have a "subtle bleed in my uterus, that is 2.2cm". I have had pain in my left ovary for a few weeks and asked my doctor who basically put it down to "that time of the month". I went to a different dr after reading my results who sent me for another ultrasound in 3 weeks to check on the bleed, but when i mentioned the cyst he just said nothing to worry about and sent me away. Meanwhile, i have made another appointment to see a third doctor, but my fiance and i are really worried about the bleed, does anyone know if this is harmful for the baby? Will he or she be ok? I have not had any spotting or bleeding down below at all. any advise or positive news would be fantastic, thankyou all very much in advance xox

i had a cyst removed as it had been bled into after an ectopic it was very painful and i have now found out im 8wks pregnant so am worried about the op site splitting, the dr says its fine and im putting my trust in them. if you get pain then get to hospital just to check but if the dr isnt concerned about it affecting the pregnancy then you should be fine hun xxxxxxx

Hiya. Can't help with the bleed but I found that I had a cyst (5cm) on my left ovary at my 12 week scan. Apparently, they are quite common and can only cause a problem if they twist (and you would know that was happening with the pain). I have been placed under a consultant but she doesn't seem too bothered, so I am trying not to be. It will be measured again at my 20 week scan but apparently they are unlikley to continue to grow after 12 weeks ish (something toi do with the placenta taking over). She has told me that I will need to have it removed after the baby is born. I go back to see her after my next scan so am just hoping it hasn't grown. If you look in my other topics youi will be able to find my post - a few people replied who had experienced it.

Hiya
not able to give advice about the bleed but the cyst on your ovary is actually not that big. Everyone will have a small cyst on their ovary during the first trimester as that is what is producing hormones to support the pregnancy unroll the placenta takes over around 12weeks. At which point the cyst shrinks. So often cysts are seen in early scans which have gone at the anomaly scan at 20weeks. This is why the consultant and gp won't be too worried.
Hope that helps

I have had both hun, I had a 6cm cyst on my ovary which shrunk and disappeared on its own and I had a site of bleeding from my placenta. The blood had come from a small haemorrhage behind my placenta, it was discovered at 12 weeks and I had a small bleed at 16 weeks, I had a scan which showed baby happy and doing a headstand. I am now 27 weeks and both the cyst and the pool of blood are gone. Try not to worry but make an appointment with your midwife or the unit that did the scan to explain the results to you, they shouldn't send you off to worry like that without giving you an explanation, especially if it is something very routine like a cyst! Apparently most people have cysts at one point or another but only find out about them if they coincide with a scan. They also said pregnancy hormones can make them grow bigger than normal although they are still completely harmless in 99% of cases.

Hi there!
I know exactly how worried you are. I had a large red bleed at 9+6 and thought I was miscarrying, however a scan showed a healthy baby and a uterine bleed - they are called haematomas and are actually quite common.
They nearly alwayts resolve by 20 weeks and 2.2 cm is pretty small, They are harmless at that size, you may experience spotting or maybe som brown bleeding but this is normal. I promise you that this bleed does not put your baby at increased risk.
Cysts, known as corpus luteum cysts are very very common too. It's the follicle where the egg popped out of your ovary, but instead of collapsing it is fed by the pregnancy hormones and turned into a cyst. As PP said, 3cm isn't massive, I have a 3cm one and although I have had a few twinges it hasn't caused any problems. Again, they are rarely still visible by a 20 week scan, and again - I promise that it will not harm your baby. My midwife actually said that a lot of the time she feels it's counterproductive to tell women about these cysts because they are SO common at early scans, and so harmless, and knowing of them just causes worry.
If you want to read my full story on my bleed etc just click my other topics, but I am now nearly 15 weeks and babba is doing just fine!
