Had my consultant appt tpday at 39+5 for my sweep - the one my midwife said was pointless ...

Sooo, got to the hospital and it was a different consultant immediately when into panic mode as nobody there seemed to know what was going on - they were a midwife short so had one midwife trying to assist 2 consultants with a nurse who was new to the section doing people's BP's etc

Waited for 40 minutes watching the chaos unfold as the nurse was writing people BP's up on the wrong sets of notes and generally getting more wound up. The consultant we saw said about 2 words in total - fortunately the midwife with him was fantastic. She felt my bump and was pleased that Jnr was 3/5's engaged, she then gave me an internal - cervix is nice and soft but still long apparently so she was unable to do full sweep. She did mention that that could have been due to the loop excision I had 7 years to go to remove pre cancerous cells. She said as things stand now Jnr 'probably' won't put in an appearance without some encouragement! SO she's booked my induction for FRIDAY 13TH!! Am trying not to be superstitious!!! Was also told that if I wanted to get in touch with my midwife for a sweep in the meantime it might help

So sweep on the 12th and induction on the 13th!

Oh no! Nightmare! I am a few days overdue and may have to be induced also! I hope this doesn't happen and baby arrives by Monday! All the best with your labour

Wow i'd love Dylan born on Friday 13th but I can understand the superstitions and other reservations.

Im glad you saw a good midwife, I never rate the docs much anyway, and although im sorry it didnt work im pleased you at least have a plan of action!

Hi hun, did she say if you were dilated at all. My sweep hasnt worked for me.....boohoo,im soo fed up and praying i dont need to be induced nxt thursday!!!

Hey welshka, you gotta tell the full story on here or it wouldn't be the same!

Don't worry about getting induced on Friday 13th, it's luck for loads of people and you never know, baby might not come til the 14th depending what time you'd have to go in.

I'm due on Monday but so many people have said my baby will arrive Friday 13th!! Don't like the thought of having to wait til then (although realisticly my induction date wouldn't be til 21st) but I bet there's a right bunch of us giving birth then! Ha ha!!

Blimey!!! What a day!!!

I must say that they are not leaving long between your swep and your induction. I thought that it could take a couple of days for things to get going after a sweep???? Works in your favour though :)

Jstar - no not dilated at all! Things are heading in the right direction - my cervix has come to the front and is nice and soft but still closed. She seemed to think it unlikely that Jnr would come without being induced as things stand ... so just trying to get my head around that.

EmilyPee - as for there not being long between my sweep and induction - I'm a victim of being due in a busy month!!!! And although my induction is booked for 11am on the 13th I have to ring the ward first thing that morning to make sure there's space for us and if not we have to re-schedule....

Am still going to keep going with the hot curries, pineapple, walking (SPD allowing) and 'other stuff' this weekend!!! You never know - Jnr might decide not to wait after all - wishful thinking!!

Fingers crossed that Junior will make an appearance without too much encouragement. I drank raspberry leaf tea and used a few drops of Clary sage oil in my baths too- might be worth adding to your 'to-do' list for the weekend.

No fireworks for me Nici - I have 2 cats who are trembling already! Am staying in with them and OH is on earlies so he will be in bed for 9 - nah make that earlier - he's had ANOTHER migraine today .... grrrr (at the bad heads not my OH!!)

Aww thats a shame bout the wait but there's still time for things to start naturally. You never know. Even with induction it could be the 14th so that would be nicer. Fingers crossed for you x
