Do you mean Clexane? If so, I was on them during my first pregnancy and expect to be this time too (only 6 weeks and not seen midwife yet). Your consultant will explain this to you, but I was advised that you can;t have an epidural within 12 hours of a Clexane injection - in face I was tild this at my very first appointment at 8 weeks, she said to do the injections in the morning as you;re more likely to go into labour at night, then it;ll have been longer since the injection and you can have an epidurla if you need/want one. As I neared the end of my pregnancy I was reminded not to inject if I thought I was in labour, as it would 'keep my options open' - as it was I was induced at 41+4, booked in for 8am so she said not to have my Clexane that morning - then I just carried on with it as normal from the next day (for another 6 weeks).

As it was I only used Tens and Gas and Air, so the epidural was never an issue, but I put in my birth plan that I was on Clexane so they'd be aware. I had to be monitored continuously but my consultant said this didn't mean i had to stay on the bed and it'd be better to be mobile - as it was I had a very intense 2hr47minute labour and stayed on the bed!

And I was able to breastfeed asked consultant about this too.

I got used to the injections after a while, and it's worth it in the end!

If you don't mean Clexane - sorry for waffling! But if you do, and I can answer any more Qs for you, please ask

Sorry yes i did mean Clexane, (realised I spelt it very wrong once I hit post, lol)
Thank you for your input. I was told they will tell me more at consultant appointment but thats 2 weeks away. I am on them as I had expected clot but I dont have one so its just precautionary, but also coz im pretty immobile from spd.
Im not worried about not having epi as didnt have one in last labour. is the monitoring during labour because of the injections?
Im not worried about injecting myslef, bit stingy but after spending couple of nights in hospital I would rather be at home doing it myself!
I was booked into a midwife led unit to have my baby, do you think this wont be possible now? (i know these are questions to ask consultant but nice to talk to "normal" people who have been there)
Thanks for all the info. If anyone has any more to do with any part of having to have these injections daily I would love to know about it x

I too was on Clexane without actually having a clot - my Mum has had three and I have low protein C, which outs me at higher risk of clots, was advised never to take the combined pill etc.

The stinging does get easier, maybe it's just that your body gets used to it, but I do remember the stinging didn't last that long.

I'm sorry I'm not entirely sure whether it was the Clexane or the condition I was having it for that meant continuous monitoring, I don't think I asked. However, if you are still on Clexane when the baby is due I think they would definitely recommend you have it in hospital - I think anyone who is under a consultant during pregnancy is advised to have their baby in hospital (and if that's the case I don't think a birthing centre/midwife led unit would accept you, sorry).

I also had regular growth scans as apparently there was a slight risk of growth being affected - but again I'm not sure if this was the Clexane or the low protein C - but everything was absolutely fine and it was nice to have so many chances to see my baby before he was born.

Do you know if you have anything that pre-disposes you to clots, or was it just one of those things? I hope you get the answers you want from the consultant.

One more thought, if you are fairly immobile I would expect them to give you some very attractive support stockings to wear too - sort of like the flight socks you can buy in Boots, but full leg and white, they measure you for them to make sure the fit is right.

I am immobile coz of spd which puts me at higher risk and my mum had a blood clot near her heart a few months back (and she is also still on the injections!) I already have the sexy stockings too wear 24/7,lol.

Im not bothered about the hospital as its joined to the midwife led unit anyway.

Thank you for all your help. I will ask consultant about the things im not sure on but thank you again Happy
