Subject : frozen purees and weaning help please!

hello,

hope you are all well. sorry but i have a few questions to ask - have just frozen my first purees so would like a little advice please. but annabelle has loved sweet potato and parsnip and eaten soo much, i am really pleased.

but my questions:

how do you get your food out the tray? mine was so hard to get out, is there a way to do it? and i have the annabel karmel trays which are supposed to be easier.

some of my food had ice on top - is this ok?

do you defrost your food in the microwave first before heating it? and then how long do you heat to make sure it is piping hot through?

and when you are making your purees to put in the freezer how long do you leave it to cool down? can the puree be warm or does it have to be cool?

sorry for all the questions!! many thanks if you can help.

hope your weaning is all going well.

xxxxxx

Hi hun

Long time no speak!

I'm not sure what the AK trays are like but I have flexible ice cube trays from Tesco and I literally turn them inside out to get the puree out. Are your trays flexible so you can push them inside out? If not, it could be tricky as fruit and veg freezes in a much more compact way than water does.

Mine sometimes have ice on the top. It's just the way it freezes rather than anything that's dropped from inside the freezer

I don't defrost in the microwave but it's just my preference. I sort the girls' meals out the night before, put them in the fridge and by the next day they've defrosted. I then heat them to piping hot in the microwave, stir well, leave to cool and serve

I usually leave them for at least a couple of hours to cool completely before I freeze

xxx

Weaning is going OK for us. Grace would never stop eating so I'm having to limit her portion sizes. She has an appetite like her mother. Lily is a bit hit and miss which is a bit of a pain but she'll get there

Glad Annabelle is loving her food xx

after everyone's advice i use the tesco trays and they are FAB! when frozen i simply pop them all out and put them in another container so i've got lots of containers for different veg etc. ( easy to mix and match then!)

i defrost in microwave - usually takes 1min30 or so (i do it until it's bubbling) then i leave to cool.

i put my purees covered in a freezer bag in the fridge until it's cooled down before putting in freezer.
(i think it's to do with warming things up in freezer if it's still warm)

good luck!! xx
