Subject : Just starting weaning...top tips please

Ok ok I promise not to post anymore today after this....!!!

We are going to start weaning in the next week or so, but do any of you have an top tips for me??

Should I get a hand-held blender or a food processor?
I fI go for hand-held, do I blend it in the saucepan I cook it in or a different container?

I've got the AK food trays -do I need to steralize them before I use them?
Do you label your food that you freeze?
Do you heat it up before giving it to lo or do you just defrost it?
How do you defrost it? I would think, I would pop it out of the tray, put into a little container and cover with cling film to defrost? Does that sound right?

In the AK books it says lo still needs to have at least 4 milk feeds a day, what if lo goes off her milk do I hold off weaning for a few days?

In a few of the recipes it says you can add baby rice or formula to for e.g apple puree - does this mean you can freeze the milk or do you add it to each individual serving before lo eats it?

What equipment do I need?

Sorry ladies, I'm sure these have been asked before!!

xxx

Hey hun

we have a hand held blender and you get a jug thingy with it to blend your food in you also need a sieve for potatoes as you cant blend them due to starch.

yes i label the tubs i freeze food in as it says in my book the food lasts for up to 6 weeks.

I defrost the food in microwave in his food bowl or saucepan and it heats up then, also with adding milk i wasnt sure so i just add the milk when i have defrosted it.

sorry not much help!!

Hope the other girls can help you! Good luck!! xxxx

My top tip would be just to be relaxed about it, take it slow, and if LO doesn't seem to like something don't discount that food totally, try again in a few days or mix it with something else. We dont sterilise any of the utensils, pots or bowls x

it doesn't do any harm if you blend it, it's just the texture i think. i blended it today with brocolli.

i always heat up food until piping hot (whether it's frozen or not) then leave to cool. i'd be interested to know what other people do though! i put the cubes into my little feeding pot then defrost in a microwave (or in the fridge overnight if i think ahead)

i use tesco ice cube trays after everyone on here recommended them and i sterilise them (cold water) but that's mainly because i'm paranoid about everything. my HV told me i didn't need to sterilise feeding equipment.

i put the foods into ice cube trays and when frozen i pop them out into a clear plastic container, which i then label with what it is and the date. then i can reuse my ice cube trays! (and i've got quite a few tubs of different veg now so i just mix and match)

i add milk and rice just before T eats it.

hope that helps!! xx
