Subject : Please can anyone help me
Hi was wondering if any of you lovely ladies can help me
My baby will be 6months on 8th may I have been giving him solids since he was 16 weeks he is a big boy and milk just was not enough for him.
I have been to see the health visitor today and she has not helped at all.
between 7am and 8am I give him a 6oz bottle with breakfast he has baby cereal mixed with some of the milk
then he has 6oz of milk around 10am
then for lunch he has pureed veg - sweet potatoe, carrot, turnip, broccoli, cauliflower
then a yoghurt for pudding.
then around 4pm ish he has 6 oz of milk
then struggles to eat his tea at 5.30pm he again has pureed veg and pureed fruit for pudding
with 6oz of milk
then at 8pm he has 8oz milk before bed.
I think he is still drinking alot of milk does this sound like alot of milk to you?
I think I should be giving him a more varied diet but not sure what else to give him?
any ideas would be appreciated?
I have gave him a few finger foods he will suck them for a few mins and then chuck them on the floor
How can I get him to be more interested in them?
I find it a real struggle to get him to drink out of a cup coz he doesnt like juice or water! Can you suggest anything i can try
Thank you sorry to bombard you all

I make it 32oz? If that is what he is having and is happy with that and the food I think it is ok? Is his weight gain ok? Once they are fully weaned they have to have at least 20oz a day, but obviously your lo isn't yet. That can come from dairy products aswell!.
Could you try different veg each day rather than the same thing everyday (I may have misunderstood your post - I apologise if I have!) - just for a bit of variety?
Up until 6 months there isn't a lot he can have really - although they do gluten free rusks in asda, and organix and cow and gate do gluten free porridge's (some flavoured) so could be an idea for something different at breakfast!
I am not sure on the struggling at tea - could it be because he has had a milk feed so close by maybe? Although if he is having 6oz milk plus main and pudding it doesn't sound like he is struggling to me? I am not sure though as my lo still has her bottles with her meals!
Re finger foods - I am not sure what to suggest - except maybe he isn't ready for them yet?
Re the cup - could you try his normal milk feed in one - maybe at teatime to get him used to it? I struggled to get Ella to drink out of a cup and thought she didn't like water! Turns out it was the cup! 4th cup I bought and she loves it and drinks water fine! It is the new TT Nuby variflo cup!
Don't know how much help I have been!

Hello
I am just learning the whole weaning thing myself but ava is 6 months today, so more or less the same as you LO and she has as follows (thought a comparison may help!!)
7am - 200mls bottle
8am - Fruit, 3 tblspoons puree (going to try yoghurt and creal this week)
11am - Lunch 150mls milk (average) and 5 tblspoons veg puree
2.30 - 210mls milk
5pm - tea, 5 teaspoons bsby rice made up wiht formula and 2 tblsppons fruit puree added
6.30 - 210mls bottle
Not sure if that is of any help!?! I am going to try much more now she has turned 6 months but this may help milk/food ratio wise?

Hi My lo was exactly the same and when i took him to be weighed his weight had shot up, he was taking the milk out of habit so i spoke to HV sand she suggested that he should be taking 20oz to 25oz with the amount of solids my lo was having.

Hi,
It sounds like you have established solids pretty well, in which case I would suggest trying to give him his lunch and tea before his bottles so that he is eating full meals, then topping up on his formula.
I am still breastfeeding my lo who is nearly 7months old and this is his routine (todays meals):
7am (ish) milk feed in bed with me
8am ish - breakfast - usually ready brek or baby porridge.
11-11.30 - milk feed
1pm - lunch - half a rice cake, one scrambled egg and a yoghurt
3pm - snack of cucumber (finger food)
4pm - milk feed
5pm - dinner - cheese spread sandwich, fruit
7pm - double milk feed then bed.
With regard to the finger food, all I suggest is persevering - as he gets older and more able to hold his attention, he will get better. My lo loves dried peaches as they are quite big but lovely and soft to suck on!
With regard to the drinking thing, I can't really help, my LO uses a tippee cup but doesn't drink much at all - I only give him water. One of the girls did suggest a doidy cup though so that's my next buy!!

Hi i will tell you what Lacey has she is 29 weeks and she too was weaned early on as milk didnt do it for her, although these days its a struggle to get her to drink more than 12 oz a day!
brekkie is 6 oz milk and some ready brek,
11 am try her with 5 oz sometimes she takes it other days she doesnt,
1ish she has her luch usually a sandwich or toast a fromage frais and about 2 oz of baby juice,
5ish her tea, she has either a large jar of stage 2 food or i make her something but it is equalvelent to a jar, she then has fruit and yoghurt together and half a bana or some kiwi fruit and a biscuit! again 2 oz of juice,
8pm ish we offer another bottle sometimes she takes an 0z others she will have up to 5 oz,
she prefers her juice out of a normal cup for some reason! as for finger foods well just keep offering it, Lacey loves nothing better than a bowl of stuff to munch on, alot of the time it ends up on the floor, but she loves organix rice cakes and carrot stix maybe try those? sorry if i havent been much help!

I haven't read any one else replies - because Abby will wake up any minute!
If you want him to start using a sippy cup with his meals - try putting his normal milk into it. Rather than dirtying a bottle - you can just use the bottle to measure the water - and then pour it into the cup, then add the scoops of powder to the cup - sounds simple, but it was a real 'urika' moment when I worked that one out! Free flow cups are better than the sucky ones - but be prepared for a mess!
Your LO is very nearly 6 months - (I take it you mean he was born on 8th May - not he will be 6 months on 8th May?) so if you think he is ready, you can pretty much give him anything (apart from honey or whole peanuts) but introduce things slowly. These are some of Abby's fav foods - for some inspiration!
Mush/spoon feed (at lunch time):
Cottage pie
Bolognaise Sauce and Baby Pasta
Fish Pie with peas and carrot
Vegatable casserole
Chicken casserole
Chicken with Apricots and carrots
Chicken with apple and sweet potato
Baby pasta in cheese sauce
Potato and leek in cheese sauce
Broccoli and cauliflower in cheese sauce (sometimes with baby pasta).
she also likes a mixture of vegetables, such as carrot, sweet potato, butternut squash, pumkin, broccoli, pea, green bean, courgette, Sweede, Avocado, the list goes on.
Finger foods (for tea):
Philledelphia sandwhiches,
Egg Mayo sandwhiches,
Tuna Mayo sandwhiches,
Tomato (cut into 6 segments)
Cucumber (cut into chunks)
Tea Cakes
Riveta with philly
Rice cakes
Fruit (banana is a clear fav!)
bread sticks
toast
pitta bread
steamed carrot, broccoli, etc
Boiled egg.
Hope that helps.
