Subject : Do you get kisses and cuddles?

hi there, hope all you mummies are well?

Its basically as the subject says really, do you get many kisses and cuddles from your toddler? I was bought up in a family that was very affectionate and I still don't leave any of my immediate family without giving them a kiss and hug good bye. So when I had Shea it just became normal to shower him regularly with kisses and cuddles and tell him often how much I love him. My hubby found this strange as he comes from a family that NEVER show affection and he can NEVER remember being cuddled by his mum!!

anyway I had a friend over other day who has a 2 1/2year and she commented on how affectionate Shea was with me. He'll regularly stop whatever he's doing and come over and ask for a kiss and hug and of course I always oblige!!
My friend said that her boy has never iniated a cuddle with her and if she asks for one and squirms away and refuses!!

I suppose I just take it for granted with Shea being so affectionate, but just wanted to see its Shea who's the odd one or my friends lo!!

ahh, I think it's sweet. Good boy Shea!

My parents weren't that affectionate but we've been with Isla and she's always kissing and hugging us and her grandparents and telling us "uv you".... Sadly, Daddy gets more than mommy?!?!!? Sad

It's probably just my theory and no ounce of truth to it but I think if kids are affectionate they learn to be compassionate and loving adults. It instills some sense of respect for others too... I'm just rambling but hope you get what I mean...

Keep hugging and kissing him!!

He's definatly not odd hunnie, my three are always giving me hugs, kisses etc, infact I have to regulary sit down as they all swamp me wanting cuddles etc and trying to fit a 8,6 and nearly 4 yr old around a bump isnt all that easy lol!!!!
I'd say good for you, its a great way to have contact with your child and it means they feel secure and will come to you for anything xxxxxxxxx

Chloe goes through phases of this!! I don't have a close relationship with my mum like that and although i was brought up to give them a kiss before bed, not much more than that. I have therefore always craved a close relationship with chloe and so have always hugged and kissed her a lot. She can cuddle and kiss and in fact will cuddle and kiss my mum!!! However with us it is very hit and miss!! She had a phase of only being willing to go to bed once she'd kissed each of us 10 times before bed!! I had kisses from her last night which is the first time in months! I wish she was like Shea cos I try everyday but invariably doesn't work!!

Make the most of it cos once he realises it may not be 'cool' to kiss mummy all the time he might stop!!

my two are pretty afectionate, they both will come up without been prompted for a kiss or a cuddle. me and OH are both quite affectionate so its not really suprising, we were both brought up in fairly afectionate families so i supose it just seemd natural to us to give lots of kisses and cuddles.
i think taht its lovely. x

I have a really affectionate and loving boy too and honestly, I absolutely LOVE it! I wouldn't have it any other way, and he doesn't know any other way to be. I am a very tactile person generally, and I have always given lo lots of kisses, cuddles, tickles, played with his hair, raspberries etc, and have him on my lap to read books or have his milk or watch some TV.

As you say with Shea, Daniel regularly stops what he is doing to have a kiss and a cuddle and makes 'awwwww' noises whilst he is doing it, which is what I have always done when we have cuddles, so I suppose he is just copying. And if I ask for a kiss or a cuddle, he always gives me one, though they might then be quite quick ones! When he decides that he wants a cuddle, they take absolutely ages and its soooo nice. And when I carry him (getting rarer now as he's a big boy), he wraps his arms around me and has a cuddle then too. I am at my happiest then lol.

I tell Daniel all the time 'you and your daddy are the best things in mummy's world' and 'mummy loves you so so much' and 'you're mummy's best boy' and he just laps it up.

My mum tells me that she has heard from lots of people (not from her own experience as I am an only child) that boys are more loving than girls generally, and that (again, generally) boys are more loving towards their mummies than anyone else. Hurrah for that I say! I think its so lovely and I am really happy to have an affectionate little boy x

I'm so glad we all have affectionate los'!!

Frillypink - I think your theory is right about compassion and caring!! or as least I hope so!!

Rhian - I LOVE IT TOO!!! I get about half hour cuddle first thing in morning and then we ahve about an hour sit down at bed time, and he'll just keep asking for "kiss" and I get the biggest wettest slobbery snogs!!!!!
I have also heard about boys being more affectionate than girls and I think its generally true. my sis has 4 kids, two girls and two boys. She never gets affection off the girls (13&17) but the boys are always getting next to mum on the couch for a cuddle and they are 11 & 21!!!!!

I do feel sorry for my friend, I couldn't imagine Shea not wanted to cuddle me!!

Oscar's a little younger but loves cuddles and snuggling into my shoulder. He gave me my first proper cuddle today - normally he comes over, climbs into my lap and lets me cuddle him but today I was filling the washing machine and he came up behind me, put his arms round my waist and cuddled into my back. I almost melted.

Both me and oh are very tactile with him so I'm hoping it lasts as I love cuddle time!

We're an affectionate family too, and I get plenty of kisses and cuddles from my 3. Get lots of mwah kisses off my 22mth old - very wet lol!

I must admit that now my boys are getting bigger (7 and 5) they do sometimes squirm away from me though lol!

My boys frequently come up and say 'I love you mummy' which is lovely. I think I'll have to tape it to prove that they loved me when they are horrible teenagers! Smile

Aw bless, it's so sweet to hear how cuddly all your lo's are. I get a fair amount of cuddles from my 2, but only if they want a cuddle! If I ask I usually get a 'no!'

I do love it when they give me a spontaneous cuddle or kiss because it just makes me feel really happy. I come from a family where showing emotions isn't the done thing, we rarely hug or kiss. So I make sure I'm always very affectionate and tactile with my girls as I want to show them I love them as well as telling them.

daniel always gives us cuddles and kisses and i love it,he comes up to me and says "love mama" which means he wants to hug me and then he says "kiss mama" and we also make the awwwwwww noise when were hugging,he always ask to sit on my knee but half the time its when ive got to sort the twins out so i try and be quick so he can sit on my knee,i always wrap my arms around him and tell him how much we both love him and i say "i love you daniel " and he says "love you mama" it just melts my heart, love it,i wouldnt have it any other way,iam doing the same with the twins as well,so hopefully when they start to speak i will be getting a huge cuddle-fest LOL!

Yes I do, but I have to ask!! Occasionally he'll come up and kiss me but usually I have to ask. Oh and he'll cuddle me tight if he's trying to get out of nappy change time and if he's tired. I like singing to him sometimes I sing 'More than words' or 'angels' and he'll sometimes cuddle me then.

I wasn't bought up in a very cuddly family either - gave my dad a kiss on the cheek before bed but that was it, oh and NEVER with mum, I will occasionally hug mum but not often, dad makes me kiss him before I leave but I hate it!! Lol I sound like a stroppy pre-teen but being affectionate with family makes me feel so bloody awkward.

I hope Gabe doesnt grow up like that tho!

I always got on great with my family when I was a child but we were never very affectionate towards each other althought my husbands family were. However we have brought Kara up to be affectionate and she hugs and kisses us all the times and at times just comes up to us to get a cuddle. I love it especially when she hugs you really tight and holds my cheeks for a kiss and then kisses me loads of times. It makes you feel really close to her. I do believe the theory about boys being 'mummy's boy's' and girls being 'daddy's girls'. Kara is a real daddy's girl and gives him more cuddles than she does me lol.

I gues you could say that I ahve come from an affectionate family. I hug my friends that are close when I see them. I get a kiss on the check from my siblings, mum and both sets of grandparents on being greeted and waved off hine. My grandparents were cuddly people.
Whereas my husbands family, I ahve NEVER seen my inlaws hold hands let alone kiss! It always seems wierd waving good by to his nan, I just want to go up to her and kiss her goodbye!

I hope my lo (and future los!) will be affectionate to me. My hubby wont ever kiss anyone but me on the lips, so our dd gets more kisses than me when he goes to work and comes home! She comes up to me and hubby and gives us kisses and recentyl has come up to give me cuddles. Its so cute and I love it! Beofre I used to put my hands out and say mummy cuddle and she would say 'uddle' and give me a hug.

Sounds like you ahve some lovely cuddle time with your boys :) I hope if I have any they are the same!

hayden will give me a kiss when i say love you, it is very cute but very wet!! he can be a wee rascal sometimes and shake his head and run away so i can't get a kiss, i just love his cheeky laugh. he has finally learned to blow kisses , major cutness. i love it when we have cuddles on the sofa and i can snuggle my nose into his hair.
my oh is not home much at all due to his work and hayden is so funny when we have a cuddle and tris to get inbetwen us!

Lily will kiss you but despite us always being affectionate with her she is still sometimes reluctant too but when she does she always gives more than one! Hubby and I are very affectionate with each other in front of her and if we are cuddling on the sofa or standing hugging she will come over and join in which is lovely. Hubby does get most of the kisses which annoys me because I am always kissing Lily telling her I love her! I wouldn't say either of us are from very affectionate families- kissing and hugging maybe when we say good bye etc, I don't really remember my mum just randomly cuddling or kissing me.

Since being pg Lily has taken a lot of interested in "baby" giving my bump kisses and resting her head on my tummy stroking it- this isn't really something we have shown her to do she just does it which is lovely! x

My 20 month old boy is very affectionate, always kissing and cuddling. I'm also from an affectionate family, so to me its normal! I was worried when I had my daughter now 5 weeks, that he would be jealous of me holding her etc, but he just want to kiss and cuddle her too! x
