Subject : Booking In - What family medical history is relevant?

Hi ladies

i have my booking in appointment with the midwife this afternoon and am just going over my family medical history (feel like i'm studying for an exam!)

Thing is, whilst there are loads of things wrong with my immediate family, I'm not sure if any of it is actually relevant.

So can someone please tell me what conditions/illnesses are important for the midwives to know about?

thx

Hi love.

Can't believe you're booking in already - that's come round really quickly!

Have you had your green notes in the post yet? I got mine before my appointment and was asked to fill them in in advance. There is a section in there with a list of medical conditions they ask about - to be honest it was all stuff you'd know about like heart conditions, diabetes etc.

xxx

I tried to research as much as poss before my appointment but as MN says it's just form filling then she will ask about anything relevant from your answers. For me the only things were my grandad's diabetes and twins on both sides. I thought that i would need to give much more family history but the thing that took ages at the appointment was filling in loads of forms!

xx

She will run through, condition by condition, and you just say yes or no. Would be helpful to know your mum's obstetric history as they sometimes ask about that.

thanks girls - booking in went well - i'm a "low risk" pregnancy thanks to no serious medical issues and being a good weight for my height - so that's a relief

i'm impressed by how many thick books and leaflets i was given - surprising for nhs

MN - it's going so quickly! (although doesn't feel like it when i have bad nausea) im 8+3 today - woohoo Happy
