Subject : How do you make up your bottles?
Hi im sure this has been asked so many times but just wondered how you all made up your bottles?
To start with we boiled water, let it cool and added the powder straight away and put the bottles in the fridge. Grace has always been really good and taken them straight from the fridge but i now feel its a bit cold for her. We have now started adding the cooled water to bottles and then leaving them on the side at room temperature and adding the powder as required. She seems ok taking them like this and its easier to go out with!
So just wondering what other bottle feeding mums are doing? Also how long can the water be left on the side for?

We are boiling the kettle and letting it cool for half an hour, then filling the bottles (6 at a time) and adding the powder. When they are cooled we put them in the fridge and warm them up when AJ wants one. I use them at room temp to if we're going out as we can't always warm one and AJ doesn't seem to mind. I asked the HV about it and she agreed this was fine as the box says to boil the kettle and let cool for 30 minutes for each feed, no way can I keep a screaming boy waiting! Not realistic. I think the hot water kills any bacteria in the milk powder? We are using Aptemil hungry baby xxx

Hiya
I sterilize all the bottles 1st thing every morning. Then I boil the kettle and let it cool for half an hour (sometimes a bit less) and pour the cooled boiled water into the sterilized bottles - I make enough up for each day. Then I put the powder in and let them stand for a few minutes then put them in the fridge.
Every time I need one I then take it from the fridge and warm it in my Tommee Tippee bottle warmer (these are great things by the way) and it takes just 5mins to warm it.
When it comes to the night bottles I make up 3 bottles before we go to bed. I put 2 bottles into the Tommee Tippee insulated thermal bags and take them upstairs :) The other bottle I put in the fridge so I've got one fresh for her 1st one in the morning.
Taking the thermal bags upstairs with us means I'm not traipsing up & down in the early hours and give her a feed straight away!
This seems to be working well so far anyway as she's sleeping from 10.30/11pm - 4.30am ish then back down after just half an hour then wakes at 7.30am!!

Ok ladies, so reading these you all seem to add your powder to the water so the milk is ready as and when. What about the 1 hour rule then....is that just for when baby has ouched the bottle and started drinking it????
I've been putting cooled boiled water in the bottles and putting them in the fridge and then adding the powder and heating as needed.
I love your idea of making them up and putting them in a thermos bag for night times Kelly. If this is ok to do i may start doing this. Saves time and screams at night time.

SLOW - once I've taken the bottle out of the fridge and warmed it in the bottle warmer then I do only leave it out for an hour, even if she's only had 2oz of it.
When I make the night bottles up and the one I make for the next morning I only make this with boiled water and no powder. I add this in the morning once I've warmed the water up - this is purely so the milk doesn't taste yacky for her lol.
I think adding the powder as you go along is perfectly fine and also me using the thermal bags for night times seem to be fine too, little miss is happy cuz we're not keeping her waiting and then we're happy not having to come downstairs!!
